Would it actually do decently? I feel like that's the best option they have for support considering they can claim they have all the "must have" third party titles other consoles have without having to put much effort into it.

This is impossible with the modern landscape of gaming. It's pretty much the norm at this point that games are released broken, and aren't really playable until patches come out. Sure, they can release 1st party games without patches, but that won't change the way the entire industry works.

Well son, lemme tell you a history about a certain Atari arcade.
You see, when sega released virtua racing, atari got adamant at beating sega to the punch with a fully textured 3D racing game.
8 processing units and hundreds of chips later, in a pyramid of 5 boards (pic), they managed to deliver solid 20 frames per second on a game called metal maniax, but at the time they spent piling those chips, sega did a certain daytona screaming arcade that ran at only 60 frames per second, and metal maniax never seem the light of the day.

It's worth the cost, honestly. Disc based is archaic today because you also need to install the entire game to the system to avoid outrageous load times. One 9f the main problems I've had with my PS4 is not having enough space on my system for every game in my library. Meanwhile, I've yet to even eat at my Switch's storage space despite having less than 30 GB of space.
