It was more obviously crooked until I tried to "fix it" by pushing down to the right on the top half.

Really regretting that I tried to fix it. Because when it was more obviously crooked I would be able to easily exchange it for another one. However now I'm not sure the people at Gamestop will believe me :(

As long as you bought it recently you should be able to exchange it/get a refund without any problems. You don't even need to say the real issue, just make a bullshit excuse. As long as you have the receipt and everything is in the box they won't care.
