Ann was my least favorite, she was boring as hell.

After Yusuke joined the team Ann never was in my lineup for the entirety of the rest of the game.

I got that feeling too, it hit especially close to home. My group of friends weren't tight as a whole, we were more all friends with one guy in the circle. None of us ever hung out without that one guy present. After high school his family moved and that was the end of that.

This is exactly what I imagine happened to the P4 cast, they would have all drifted apart.

Chie and Yukiko seemed to distrust Rise for being a celebrity and thus "not like them".
No one liked Naoto, she just barged in on their business and got to stay because ace detective.

The whole group revolved entirely around Brotag. Which I assume was the intention.

In P5 your Confidants aren't quite the same as the SLinks from P4. Your confidants are definitely friends, but they are, at the end of the day, give and take relationships. You are making deals.
In P4, however, that's not the case. The links aren't about making a good deal, they're about forging bonds.
This is even evident when you max them out in P5. You've made a strong bond, and receive the greatest deal they have, their ultimate confidant skill. They'll be good friends, sure, but several years down the line, you and your friends might just grow a bit distant.
In P4 though? You forge an unbreakable bond with them. No matter what happens, you and this person's fates have been forever intertwined. Everything from the image of the card slowly manifesting itself, from the musical score, to the text, in P4 is signifies the greatest conclusion of that Arcana in your journey.

Shit you're right, Rise and Naoto are the ones who will basically piss off for ever. Well, Rise probably still goes back to Inaba on her off season to chill with the tofu and the guys. And it's not unreasonable to think Naoto might also drop by her grandpapi's estate as a retreat to think difficult cases or unwind.

Giving the entire party social links is fine and all, but protagonist-kun is always dull as dishwater. It's the interactions and relationships that the party has outside of him that really gives them their chance to shine.
