I think the problem is that people drink soda on a daily basis. Soda was never intended for everyday consumption, it was a lighter alternative to alcohol without the negative effects. A good 20 oz glass bottle of soda is more than enough for a day, and nowadays you've got kids who chug a dozen cans a day, or a whole liter bottle of the stuff.

Even to this day they've somehow managed to ruin all the good sodas by throwing all kinds of chemical shit into them and make them taste like pure ass. Do yourselves a favor, if you ever have the chance to visit a real soda fountain, or a place that does fresh made soda, give it a try. You'll be amazed at the difference. A real root beer. Cream soda, or an Orange creme is miles beyond anything you can buy in stores these days.
