Pokemon and Minish Cap are childhood games.

LTTP would be on there, but I could never finish it as a kid even though I got like 90% of everything in that game (all items, upgrades, 18 hearts etc.), and when push came to shove I played a lot more Minish Cap and I nearly 100% it, and even replayed the game several times over while LTTP was stuck on the second to final dungeon.

When I did go back to finish LTTP though, I remember why I could never do it. I'd always run out of magic to light the lanterns and never got the upgrade to have 1/2 magic since I thought it was a bad thing.

Looking back though, Minish Cap edges out LTTP by a little bit in my Zelda rankings. Same with Sapphire and Gold.

It's a great game, I especially love the items in it like the Mole Mitts and the Cane of Pacci. I also really liked the Kinstone fusions, doing all those as a kid is something I vividly remember.
It's probably my second favorite 2D Zelda game, I just like the dungeon design and the non linear aspect of ALttP more.

That's perfectly fine. I loved LTTP as well for those same reasons.

Looking back I have no idea how I even got that close to completing it without a guide and finding all the items to boot. I even did the dungeons out of order. I did the third dungeon last and killed the boss in three hits, I really found that to be cool.

I vaguely remember a dungeon where you had to trick a prisoner into stepping into light and it turned out it was the boss of the dungeon. I don't remember how I accomplished it but I did.

It was a shame BOTW didn't have this kind of feeling, but it makes up with it by having a lot more cool stuff.
