Internal battery probably dead. That's fixable though. You can get it but Blue Edition is way better from a modern day point of view.

Lose the nostalgia goggles. The old graphics are going to be off putting and the outdated battle mechanics are going to grow dull pretty fast.

Where are you located OP? I have a red cartridge I'd give you. As others said it needs a replacement battery though

I bought this back when gold and silver first came out. It still has the $10 sticker on it lmao. For $15 nowadays the battery is probably dead. I bought yellow for $30 a while back because I didn't have a physical yellow because I keep losing it. I owned it twice before as a kid and lost it both times. Anyway I only bought it for $30 because the guy replaced the battery and I didn't feel like ordering it online and having to wait so I figured fuck it. Make sure you take a GBC or GBA with you to test the battery.

Replaying gen 1 is a chore nowadays though.

Not with that busted up label, also depends on if the battery is dry or not.

The games are on the eShop and can connect to the modern Pokemon games, so no use for the old cartridge.

Nah man the trick is to keep it out of the water and pretend like you are taking a shower so your mom doesn't yell at you for playing pokemon nonstop. I wouldn't take any current hand helds near the shower though.
