How do I get into this game? I enjoy it yeah, but I am pretty clueless of what I am supposed to be doing. I get some supplies and pick up the grave colonist, get him to Venderburg or where ever but after that I just end up sailing aimlessly and eventually run out of supplies and money. Am I too retarded to make money and upgrade stuff or is this game just hard to get in?
Step 1 is don't run out of supplies and money. The endgame goal is finding the exit from the zee to the surface

I'm somewhat new to the game too and making money does seem pretty hard, or at least slow.
Port reports are enough to keep you supplied. Just keep exploring and eventually you find some events on islands that give money/rewards.
Also, don't let your Terror reach 100. That's gg right there

Should I just trial and error until I find good trades to make money or is there some better way? Most quests/requests just give me stuff but not money. Also thank you kind anon for responding to stupidity.

You can turn those stuff into money

Always do every mission you can, otherwise waste a couple lives doing the ol' space sim tour to find good trade routes.
If you get a ways in, knock some woman up so you can inherit stuff from this captain when he dies and you start over as his son.
i poured about `100 hours into this game and came to the conclusion that its just too grindy. This gave all sorts of worth to the monsters and enemy ships but having your progress suddenly get deleted because you chose the wrong dialogue option is a bit much. I grinded for so long to just upgrade boats.
i read about people changing the input logs to raise their ?insight? but im not sure, it was something like that to alter the grinding.
