It certainly was a base-breaking and innovative game when it first came out, but it pales in comparison to many others that came down along the line. There isn't really a whole lot of substance to it in terms of gameplay or story, at least in the face of other, superior JRPGs.

It's just barely above the average FF game, pretty much babby's second JRPG.

You could make a case for it, but it really should've had a hard mode because it has babby tier difficulty even on the first playthrough.
