If you guys were not aware, Valve closed down Steam Greenlight. This is a good thing, right? No more shit, giving back some resemblence of quality.
No, the new system is even worse. Rather than games first having to go through Steam's user hivemind to see if publisher can release the game, now whoever wants to put the game in can pay the same amount as initial Greenlight entrance fee(100 dollars, practically fucking nothing), skip all the previous shit and immediately have their game approved for release.

Also, when the Valve did close the Greenlight, rather than returning the admission money to people who had submitted in games, they just immediately approved literally everything that was open at the time, regardless of the community approval they had.
So I hope you're looking forward to RPG Maker eroge with machine translations flooding the marketplace now.
Fuck this shit. They are literally the main market for the PC games, and they can't fucking get their policy about porn content straight, or put some effort into policing their platform.

>Also, when the Valve did close the Greenlight, rather than returning the admission money to people who had submitted in games, they just immediately approved literally everything that was open at the time, regardless of the community approval they had.
What the fuck really why would they do that?

>they can't fucking get their policy about porn content straight, or put some effort into policing their platform.
They need to define their policy better on it. Technically pornographic, h-games, eroge whatever is not allowed on steam. Devs are getting them on steam by abusing a loophole. They will release a censored version of their game on steam then simply provide an easily accessible uncensor patch on the forums.
>>
>>381109041
Steam is an open market, just don't buy these games. They just need to make filtering by tags on the store possible.
>>
Only reason Valve doesn't want to sell porn games is because payment processor laws get a gorillion times more complex once you do. There is literally nothing wrong with devs "abusing" the loophole of free "unofficial" patches.
>>
wtf I love steam now!
>>
>>381109916
Honestly? Yeah, I am. I do some freelance stuff for one company with really hard-ass Steam-rep who is really quick to crack down on any kind of erotic content in games, trading cards or just store banners.
That is fine, really. It's something I'd expect from a fuckhuge company, and when you've gotten used to the standards, most of the notes they give are easily fixable, stuff like "move character on background more to right as to keep Steam UI clear", and so on.

Meanwhile this stuff gets a free pass. Right hand doesn't see what left hand does, I suppose.
>>
>>381110267
Paypal needs to get their shit straight. They are allowing people to support Patreons with porn content, but apparently straight up buying porn is still too much.

No they are not. The censored version is being sold legally and adheres to steam policy.

So? There is nothing wrong with what they are doing as the patch is optional and not being sold on Steam.

I love this stuff so I don't mind. In fact, I haven't used Steam in years because it held nothing but shit on it. I'll have a reason to buy from them again now.
>>
>>381109041
>quality control
I don't think you understand how a market works, dumbfuck. If the games are shit, nobody will buy them, if they are good, people will buy them. If people want to buy shitty games - let them. Valve is smart enough to understand this and this is the reason they will NEVER have ANY sort of competition from anyone else, just beggars like GoG picking up the crumbs from under their table.
>>
>>381111572
>If the games are shit, nobody will buy them, if they are good, people will buy them
You should know that this isn't true at all. The only real factor as to whether games get bought or not is how well the marketing campaign goes.
>>
>>381111572
Someone has to buy the game to rate it. But with return policy should help negate the issues involved.
>>
>>381111776
>>381111989
Again, if people want to buy shitty games, it's their right and Valve is smart enough not to go against their wishes. There is absolutely NO reason not to allow shitty games on Steam, since the presence of these shitty games does not detract anyone from playing the games they like and, with Steam trying to turn their store into a personalized store for each user, you won't even see those shitty games unless you specifically search for them by browsing the general genre directories.
>>
>>381112330
What the fuck is stopping existing eroge publishers from cutting 99% of their game, putting it on Steam and just having game be "lol go and download the patch idiot" which will unlock the actual game.
Just fucking allow actual porn to be sold at that point.
>>
>>381112610
Adding actual porn would require Valve to jump some legal hoops and we all know Valve prefers the path of least resistance, so I doubt it will ever happen. Personally, I don't buy shit like eroge or anything of the sort, so I don't care, but I wouldn't care if Valve were allowed to sell porn through Steam and would actually start doing it either.
>>
>>381109041
So? if a game is good it will get some natural publicity, you don't have to wade through this shit

Because community votes didn't generate them money.

Steam trading card abuse, I think. Some shitstain "devs" released fake "games" and then used bots to buy and sell Steam trading cards, generating income for themselves somehow.

Read this:
http://www.pcgamer.com/big-changes-are-coming-to-steam-trading-cards/

Of course, there might be other reasons, but I think this is one of them.
>>
>>381111572

I, for one, welcome porn games on Steam, but I think I'll stick to getting most of them from dlsite because I'd rather have DRM free copies along with some other reasons.

>not wanting DRM in your computer is edgy
It's not. I don't want DRM on my games, so that's why I use Steam, since GoG is a physical means of DRM that has locked people out of playing old games for free without repercussions (i.e. without actually pirating them) by turning abandonware sites such as Abandonia and HotU into shells of their former selves.

>actual eroge on Steam
>OP says this is a bad thing
Fuck off

And I don't want Steam having quality control. Why should Valve decide for me what games I want to buy and play?

I'm excited because this will likely help more ero games get localized as well as encourage developers to make them more and make the West more open to the idea of sex.

Also an open Steam also means niche games are more likely to be able to be sold in the West on PC. Its a win win and no one loses except for weirdos who walk into stores not knowing what they want to buy
>>
I love shitty games, I'm looking forward to it.
>>
>>381114496
So Valve only stepped in when they realized they weren't making money off of it.
>>
>>381117383
>I'm excited because this will likely help more ero games get localized
This. When the nipnogs will understand that there's an untapped virgin market in the West and that Steam is a very easy to use distribution method that allows devs to reach millions of people, eroge will sprout from the ground like shrooms after a rain.
>>
>Steam becomes a hub for porn games leading to a downfall in PC gaming overall

Good
>>
>Steam
>ever having quality control

You have "videogames" there that would make the average RPGMaker game look like a masterpiece.
>>
I don't really agree with Valve's decision, but now the most important thing is taht they get their store algorithms set correctly so shit games like this fade into the background and don't take some halfway decent games with them. That's alot of faith to have in Valve's data, and alot of smalltime but passionate devs are at stake depending on how it does.

Is it even legit? Someone on the steam forum mentioned that someone might be uploading it instead of the real devs.
>>
>>381109041
>No, the new system is even worse. Rather than games first having to go through Steam's user hivemind to see if publisher can release the game
Except they didn't, the system was already busted with armies of bots and third worlders thirsty for free CD keys ready to force your game through the system. No genuine user input needed.
>now whoever wants to put the game in can pay the same amount as initial Greenlight entrance fee(100 dollars, practically fucking nothing), skip all the previous shit and immediately have their game approved for release.
Which is now per game instead of an one-time blanket payment that gave asset flippers free reign to shitflood the marketplace with complete fucking trash, at least now each failed flip is directly $100 down the drain.
>Also, when the Valve did close the Greenlight, rather than returning the admission money to people who had submitted in games, they just immediately approved literally everything that was open at the time, regardless of the community approval they had.
Really? That's just fucking dumb.
>>
>>381117648
They were still making money off of it - every market transaction has a tax cut for Valve.

Do you mean "shit games" as in genres you don't really care for, or the deluge of low effort asset flips put forth to try and extract some money out of unsuspecting schmucks? The former is not too difficult, while the second one is a goddamn herculean task without also fucking over a ton of small new developers as casualties.

>>381119013
Last I heard some company supposedly got the rights from the actual devs to do the Steam distribution, though it's still a rumor as far as I can tell.
