It's really about nostalgia, I considered OOT to be my all time favorite Zelda for years until I did Majora Mask a second time a few years ago, you can really see how OOT was more of a prototype than actual game

I don't think it's a nostalgia thing. My brother played OOT like 2 years back at age 12. Before that he's played windwaker, skyward sword and majoras mask a little. He thinks OOT was the best game in the series so far.
He hasn't played BOTW and doesn't seem interested in doing so atm

I personally loved OOT and it's definitely among my top games. Might be because of nostalgia though. I played it back in 2000 at age 6. My cousin was borrowing his neighbors 64 and had a bunch of games. Didn't even know the name of OOT, I was just trying to play as much games as I could before he had to return them. Fast forward to when I'm about 11 or so and learning about emulators, I downloaded the first game from the top downloaded list. As soon as I heard that opening music, shit had me emotional.
Played through it and to this day still deem it as part of my top 5.

Anyway, point is that sometimes it's not just nostalgia. My brother genuinely thinks OOT could be the best Zelda game he's played. Kinda weird since he played most of the others a lot longer.
