Could anybody reccomend a good vidya to get utterly lost in, preferably an online one where I can play for hours on end without stopping. I want to completely drown out my real life, anybody know a great online game for this purpose?
Have you tried suicide?

Try anime or visual novels for that. they work better
everquest
Boku no Pico
If you have any interest in star trek, star trek online can suck you in.
BUT.
Only if you read the dialogue and actually pay attention to the quest dialogue and story dialogue. That is 100% not a video game you should just skip all dialogue for and go from point a to point b to do the thing and turn in quest to do another quest straight after.
If you skip the dialogue in Star Trek Online, you are ruining the experience completely.

Eve online, yiu can basically start a second life if you turn yourself into a good FC or CEO.
Many of the things you need to be successful in Eve like that though, are the same as in RL.
Any of the top mmos? You can make friends since there are lot of people like you.
