From what we're shown in game, they only seem to be vaguely aware of timeline shifts, more akin to a strong sense of deja vu than straight up remembering. Asgore takes your word on how many times he's killed you because the glimpses of it are there.

The problem with goat mom wasn't the "le sent 7 kids to die" meme. She wasn't careless nor callous, and if you've played the game, you know right off the bat she isn't the second coming of Casey Anthony like so many say. Toriel's core problem was more or less the same as Asgore's. Like him, she was caught between her kindness and her cowardice.

Toriel, like her husband, was stuck between a rock and a hard place. She could either go back and face Asgore or stay in the ruins and try to keep anyone from entering the underground. Of course, we all know how it played out. She would give in somehow to the kids not wanting to stay at the ruins, and, hoping she had some sort of third option, let them go, hoping they'd make it out, kept back by her unwillingness to meet with a man who, in her mind, was a murderer. Does this justify her actions or though process? Hell to the no, but it gives us a little more insight as to why she did the things she did. She's quite self aware too. Once again, if you've played the game, you'll know that she tells you that she feels pathetic over not being able to protect a single child. Her weak will thus far has lead to her deaths, and she engages you in desperation, hoping either you're strong enough to make it, or that you'd turn back and not have to face an entire populace that would be out for your blood. Depending on what choice you make in game, we know how it turns out. In a TP run, she lets you go like the other children, but her guilt finally overrides her cowardice, her fear of consolidation between her and Asgore: she follows you and arrives just in time to intervene a fight between you and Asgore. She breaks the cycle that she let go on for so long. Now, does that exactly solve everything or make up for everything else? That's a debate for another day. What I'm trying to get at is that while she sure as hell is a flawed character, it's quite apparent that she has good intentions, and, by games end, does her best to realize them.
