Oh fuck off, if there's any recurrent problem it's the Hanzo/Widowmaker pairup. Who the fuck sees someone choose one and then decides to pick the other? Two snipers can work on defense, sometimes, especially if the Hanzo isn't afraid to step down from his hidey perch. But on attack it's miserable. We end up never taking the point but, hey, at least they got their headshots.

Also, mains of any kind suck. Sometimes you'll have to cycle between 3 or even 4 characters before you find just the one that slips through the enemy's defense.

I'm a top 500 Mercy player. Been a Mercy 1tp since open beta. I have never once played in a party.

It's fucking hard, man. People say she's easy to play but that's just cause you don't have to aim. I have played a lot of competitive vidya in my time and playing Mercy at this level is hands down the most stressful. But I'm in too deep to stop now.

The main problem is Mercy's skillset doesn't transfer over well to any other character. Say you're a Widow main and someone goes Widow. You go shit, we don't need two snipers, gotta switch. Well since you're good at aiming (presumably, you main Widow) you can switch over to Soldier or Mcree and still do well because you can aim. Or even Ana, help your team and do relatively good because with your aiming skills you can hit your teammates in a fight and keep them healed up. If you're good at Reinhardt and at being a tank, you can also probably do relatively well at say, Roadhog or Orisa or D.Va. However, Mercy's skillset doesn't really transfer to anyone else's. Her unique style of avoiding combat completely, zipping around with her wings, and switching between buffing and healing means a Mercy main never has to be good at aiming. I'm not say you can't be a Mercy main and have good aim, I'm saying her character doesn't require this. This is why I think Mercy mains in particular don't do well when they're forced to switch to other characters.

In a game where not every hero is viable and no matter what is the meta right now, there are certain roles in every team you have to fill, maining one character will get you in a situation regulary where you can't play him or her. Learn to aim. This is the most important.
Only use fan on tanks and other large targets, never on small squishies. Try to headshot the squishies instead; refer back to point 1.
Don't try to hold your ult for le epic team kill wipe. Be content with one or two, or even just damaging people, unless it's comboed with another ult. Once the patch drops you can use it as a quick reload.

As a whole though, he's far less useful than Soldier in almost every situation in the game and the patch won't fix that, so you're best ignoring him until either he's further buffed or Soldier is nerfed.

This, her basic kit needs a massive rework. You can't have a hero that can only do one mediocre thing at the same time (heal/boost/shoot from her pistol) when other healers can do multiple better things AT THE SAME TIME.

Zen puts two orbs and shoots at the same time.
Ana heals, nades and puts to sleep with tiny intervals in between, withouth the need to switch weapons.
Lucio speed boosts/heals, damages and boops.

Lucio and Ana are also both more durable and their ults don't even require them to stay alive longer than their teammates.

Not possible. Mercy needs to be very close to her allies to heal them. Ten meters is not a long distance in this game, Mercy will almost always be exposed if not plainly out in the open when her healing stream's range is so limited and requires direct line of sight. If her allies are in a "good position" for Mercy to stay safe, they're probably not in a good position for their own ability set.

Mercy is also the only character in the game who can not properly defend herself and perform her primary role at the same time. If you could use Staff Healing/Boost and Blaster at the same time, Mercy would actually be worth a damn beyond being an Ultimate Counterattack. Instead, she's a lesser Zenyatta with a crappier damage-altering ability and a rate of healing that is mediocre at best given the risk and vulnerability she faces.

Until Mercy is able to heal and fight at the same time like the rest of the Support characters, she will always be a character that gets put into a shitty pigeonhole role of Ultimate denier rather than a proper healing support.

Mercy hasn't necessarily become stronger because of her invincibility during her ult, but Ana has become weaker thanks to Winston having his barrier available constantly cockblocking Ana's heals and fucking her up.

Not him, but Ana players really need to have both great aim with hitscan (scoped rifle), projectile (unscoped rifle and sleep dart) and ballistics (grenade) as well as great reflexes and know exactly what to do when. Not even the TF2 Medic goes up against such immediate threats and he can move faster than anyone except the Scout. The only way for Mercy to stay out of danger is by staying up in the sky with Pharah and even that isn't much of a defense with characters like 76 around.

Damage Boost is worthless, it only buffs one ally as opposed to Discord letting the entire team pile on one enemy.
Mercy's Blaster is fucking great, but since she can't shoot and heal at the same time like everyone else, it's criminally underused.
Guardian Angel needs allies to fly to instead of just being a free movement dash skill which would give Mercy the escape option she needs.
Mercy is CRIPPLED and it makes her FAR from a "True Healer". Being hamstrung as she is is the reason why her only true purpose is to revive after the enemy team blew their attack Ults.

Pressure comes from multiple facets of her play.

You need to make a majority of your shots. You need to prioritize and shift targets constantly. You can't misuse grenade. You need to be mindful of all your surroundings which means staying unscoped often but always making your quick scopes. Deal with backline flankers. Coordinate nano boosts. Knowing when and who to sleep dart. Proper positioning.

These were all things I noticed and had to constantly think of when picking up Ana in comp. It feels like a constant assault of tasks so you'll stay busy but you need to be calm and very flexible.

A Mercy can get away with not hiding at lower ranks where people are too stupid to kill Mercy first, but at high ranks as soon as nanoblade or whatever other ultimates are used in the push pop, the enemy team dives the mercy right away. She doesn't have any time (and literally cannot) heal people through a nanoblade or grav push. Its much more effective for her to hide so she can't be picked, wait for the enemy to use their ults and kill the team, and then fly in to rez them. If every Mercy was like this the world would be a better place. If any of you are listening, Mercy e-girls, start putting on an anime voice and moaning every time your team does something good.

People say Mercy is so easy to play, but I honestly shy away from picking her in competitive, even though I like her mechanics. I'd much rather play Ana or Zenyatta. They might be mechanically more difficult, but at least they don't end up in those stressful situations where the enemies flankers are hunting you down while you have to wait for the right moment to rezz your team. Other supports can at least fight back. And your own team always notices when you fuck up as Mercy, because there's no rezz.
