Byte is actually the first true AI. However, being too dangerous to the world they stripped him of essential parts until sufficiently dumbed down. However, something went wrong and he seemed to malfunction to a greater degree than the lost parts should have affected. Because of this they built Bark out of those parts and linked the two together wirelessly. The connection is weak enough to not reconnect all the parts with enough bandwidth to let him become what he once was. Bark has the potential Byte once had but lack what Byte has in computing power, thus is little more than a brain in a jar with a few buttons to push to express itself.
