The newest masters of orion, while not as advanced as the originals, is still pretty fun and easy to get into.

You can't go wrong with stellaris though, lots of ways to challenge yourself.

I'd say that ES2, but I'm biased because it's so good.
Stellaris has some interesting mechanics and quests, but core gameplay is steaming pile of shit.
Distant Worlds is autismo tier, not a good entry game. Don't know much about anything other because I didn't play them.

Stellaris if you like Paradox grandstrategy games, it's basically Europa Universalis in space.

Endless Space 2, way better than ES1 in almost every way, Still has some bugs and balancing issues, but that's a given when it's the latest in the genre.

GalCiv's are ok, would play 2 over 3, but im only saying that because my experience with 3's release where it was pretty much unplayable for me.

Master of orion series is great, only one of the series you should really avoid is MoO 3. The new reboot one is ok, but pretty light in mechanics when compared to 2, A good starter to the genre.

Sword of the Stars is another gr8 game, SotS 2 is kinda iffy with the devs repeatedly shitting the bed during the updates, Play 1 for optimal experience.

Distant universe is a fun one, you can either manually do everything and go insane or automate the whole running of the empire outside of a few important decissions. A interestign game, but would not use it as a starter to the 4x Genre.

never played EU or CK2. But I heard CK2 is very detailed with politician stats, heirs, the very detailed stuff. And I'm going to guess EU is like that, too. Which would mean Stellaris is like that too.

Stars in Shadow is pretty fun, but it's made by a bunch of MoO fans so it's pretty much another MoO game. Play if you like MoO 2.
