Dream Team and Paper Jam do have sprites, from what AlphaDream have said in the past. They're just made to look differently for that 3D effect for the 3DS. Only the Giant Battles/Papercraft battles use 3D graphics.

Ok, would you be fine with a remake of Super Mario Bros 3 with New Super Mario Bros artstyle? THAT is what the problem actually is, it's not "you are mad that its a different artstyle", its "you are mad that its a lazy and constantly reused and rehashed artstyle".

Its like how Disney keeps remaking all their good old cartoon movies in live action for some unknown reason, and they always end up bad. Because they were made around that artstyle, you can't always take something, keep it the same, but change the artstyle, its more of a case by case basis thing, and here it doesn't work.

They look pretty different to me. Different patterns on the hills, everything looking 3D-ish using shading and highlighting, curtains are differently-sized, etc.

I'm looking at OP's image and I see the same game in both sides with the same difference between NES and SNES Mario 3, i.e. it's still the same fucking game with a different visual style. Graphicsfags are the absolute worst and especially when they're the "Everything should be 2D sprites because muh childhood!" kind, and before you try to use age against me I started with the Atari 2600 and grew up with the NES, Master System, SNES, and Genesis, and I enjoy modern graphics as much as I enjoy retro graphics.

They should've tried to build on the ideas behind Advance attacks, like enemies sometimes "catching on" to regular Splash Bros which normally does more damage, and raising a spiky guard as you start the move, but you can react and switch to Advance mid sequence to hit through it. Shit like that.

Not like that. It wouldn't be an always thing for the enemies that do it, so you'd have to stay on your toes. Sorta like a reverse of how some enemies in the games make it look like they're gonna hit Mario as the attack usually does, but sometimes instead it actually launches off and hits Luigi with a slight delay so if you try to just do the standard shitter technique of dodging with both at once you won't be able to get Luigi to react fast enough.

Of course, that's just one bit. There'd need to be more rebalancing otherwise to make this sort of approach worthwhile.
