I thought it was a piece of shit compared to Baldur's Gate 2. Hated all the characters and the plot never delivered at all, and the combat wasn't particularly amazing.

It's fairly well rated though.

Yeah, but don't bother with the rest of the series, treat it as a standalone game.
If you're interested in a legit copy, GOG has the Ultimate edition with all the DLC on sale for 4 bucks right.
