A tutorial is not going to help you get good a GG. It's just so crazy difficult. But all anime games are and you can't really start with SF and then go to GG. Skills don't really translate between the two. The best you can probably do is start at BB. It's not as crazy as GG. Kinda depends on what your end game is. If you plan on GG being your game, Skullgirls isn't going to help you.

The problem with starting with anime games now is the playerbase is all players who have been playing forever. It's not like SF, where there will always be casuals and new players. GG is all people who KNOW the game. You are just going to get shit slapped starting now. You won't learn from that. BB is a bit easier and will transition you to GG. But other than that, best you can do is have a friend who knows how to play and can teach you.

Killer Instinct had a model similar to Mahvel Infinite and SF5 but KI is free to play at first and they rotate characters like League of Legends so you at least get to try people out

There is a difference between being disappointed and the game being terrible. It's still the best non-anime fighting game out there. It's one of the most balanced fighters of all time but and it's flawed, but not nearly as flawed as the vast majority of fighting games.

My first fightan was skullgirls, and the jump from that to USFIV was hard, being able to do a simple jab-strong-fierce-launcher-air buttons with everyone in skullgirls and then coming into sf finding you can't get a simple jab-strong without a target combo or counter hit was jarring. Street Fighter and anime games are VERY different. A better comparison is DooM 2 to Tribes Ascend (before they fucked it up). I don't know about the moba comparison because I don't play that shit. Street Fighter is more about poking and positioning ala DooM 2 while anime games, specifically GG, are about flying around at crazy speed trying to either confuse your opponent or catch them off guard to get a confirm then lock them down on their wake-up. There are some minor things that transition between the two but they are WILDLY different games.

Sm4sh viewership peaked at Big House 5 when people thought their hero ZeRo was finally going to lose. Since then it has been a steady decline at every major event, EVO, Big House, Genesis, etc. They had another spike in viewership with their big HURRAH attempt tournament called "Civil War" that they went into promotion overdrive for to try to get the scene out into prominence, but even that was a bust.

They're undergoing the same life cycle that their previous game Brawl had. It was just extended slightly by DLC and updates and Nintendo paying them into EVOs. They see the writing on the wall and it was the entire point of Civil War, to try to drum up some interest in Sm4sh by manufacturing characters and narratives. But the reality is Sm4sh is just not interesting to viewers at a gameplay or personality level.

Street Fighter for example has gameplay that people like to watch, and it has top players who are "characters" which create popularity for the competitive community because they have charismatic personalities people can identify with, recognize, and cheer for, like Daigo, Snake Eyez, Rog, etc. It's developed an entire "lore" over the years that gets people interested. Sm4sh, its gameplay aside, simply has top players and community personalities who are charisma black holes other than the fat black dude who tells funny jokes EE. There is never going to be a Sm4sh Daigo, or Infiltration, and that's one thing that can kill a community and viewership as much as poor gameplay can. People watch sports not just for the game, but for the players.

No. NRS retards say it sucks because their games always suck so when a Capcom game doesn't live up to it's insanely high standard they jump all over it to try and distract from the fact that NRS games have always sucked. SFV is alright. It has a solid core. It just lacks a "hype" factor. People who don't like watching SFV still usually like watching Urien and Ibuki because they have that hype factor. Xrd's mission mode teaches you everything you need to know. The major hurdle for getting into anime games is that the playerbase is usually a lot smaller compared to bigger titles, so the people that actually stuck around actually know how to play the damn game. If you like the challenge then Xrd is very rewarding and a lot of fun. SFV is alright if you want to just dip your toes in the genre, the core mechanics are solid and you CAN have fun but in my opinion the game is significantly more boring than any other relevant fighter on the market. You'll at least learn how to play RPS and have a wider breadth of players to learn from.

SFV feels so good.
I was about to trade it in one day(for Tekken 7) but sat down and did some trials, ended up seeing the light through all of my efforts. Getting good now will just be a byproduct of my amusement.

This is what fightan should be, and I don't need an in-depth story, players should create their own experiences through a vaguely relatable vessel.

Yeah it's kind of baffling to me how they literally set out to intentionally make SFV a game for casual spectators and players, and yet USFIV was far better for spectators and casual players by virtue of just being itself.

I got into watching competitive Street Fighter during USFIV because I was a casual player of older Street Fighter games with my friends and USFIV's combos, huge roster, and especially Zangief's playstyle got me interested in watching and playing it. I was literally a casualfag who became an SF viewer and player because the game WAS NOT made for casuals. They need to realize that people watch fighting games not because they want to be able to do what top players can do, but because they CAN'T do what top players can do, that's what makes watching so fascinating and enticing. Then you pick up the game and strive to try to play the way you saw it played by the pros.

SFV is simply devoid of this. I got it last fall and really haven't even played it much anymore because it's just not interesting to play. Me and my only friend who'll playing fightanz with me usually just play USFIV, 3rd Strike, HSFII, or EX plus Alpha instead.

I wanted to like it for my friend's sake but it was bad.
Everything looks greasy and unappealing, the fighters stand at the most awkward angles and throw punches like they've got a broomstick in their ass.
There was nothing about the game that I liked (except cassie). The story QTEs were annoying. The xray moves are obnoxious. The combat never got fun.
It was so straight in a line. I don't know exactly what I mean by that but just lacked creativity. I never felt like I could get into the groove with any of the characters.
