Why are piratefags so retarded?
>>
i don't get it. if there are ads you are paying the pirates to stream things. I wouldn't call stealing a copy of something i didn't pay for "getting it for free" either though.

>>
>>381023295
If you stole it without paying for it, surely its free? Maybe not in the sense that someone decided to simply give it to you, but you're certainly not paying any money.
>>
>>381023659
Technically someone's paying for it, at least a little bit, through the bandwidth costs. This amount probably isn't going to get anyone involved very far, though.

Equating piracy or theft is disingenuous and will not be a valid comparison until you can clone the things you want from the story. There is no inherent loss of money by pirating as you're not stealing a physical copy. There's no limited stock of data either so downloading a torrent will not hurt the company. A good example would be if I download a torrent 1 million times the devs/publishers are unharmed but if I steal 1 million things for a store they've lost over 1 million dollars that they have to replenish.

>>

>>Literally not a single shred of evidence about how Piracy negatively affects sales (otherwise publishers wouldn't stop publicizing it)

Are you retarded? It's self-evident. Or do you really think those tens of thousands of people who pirate a game turn around and buy the game they already finished for no reason after the fact?

>T-they weren't going to buy it anyway!

I can say first hand that I pirate simply because if it's readily available for free with zero consequences why would I spend money on it? I've played probably hundreds of games in the last three years but I only bought maybe five of them.

I'm not saying piracy should be stopped or that it's cutting into profits so far that it's going to put anyone out of business. All I'm saying is that there's a good reason why every major release has only 1-3% of its sales on PC. Hint: It's not because PC gamers aren't playing them.
>>
>>381023097
>anime accounts talking

I'm gonna assume theyre talking about pirating anime which is completely justified since sub groups release the anime with good quality subs less than a week after it comes out, while official releases take months and sites like crunchyroll have shit tier subtitles
>>
>>381027472
cause it somehow gives sense to working the whole week. Opium of the people. Yeah, and then you get arrested and go to jail.

Piracy, except for in extremely rare cases, takes zero effort and has zero consequences, and while some cases against people distributing copyrighted material for free have faced civil retribution, people virtually never get in trouble for downloading said content, because it's so hard to make a charge stick and prove damages in a case like that, coupled with the fact that no actual manufactured finite product has been taken, that it simply isn't worth the time or money for these companies to be litigious over.
>>

So it's unlikely you're doing so, and then you are in fact "paying", which is why his "free" is in quotes
Just because you aren't giving money doesn't mean someone on their end isn't making money.

The money in my bank can be withdrawn and converted to tangible paper with pink printed on it.
Coincidentally, paper with pink printed on it is the universal currency.
Meanwhile, video games are nothing. They can't be converted to tangible things, and aren't useful in society, therefore they are worthless.

your reasoning feels wrong.
Lets compare it to a painting in a museum. you take a picture, print it, frame it and nail it to your wall. you do not have the original, but a mere copy. did the museum have a loss from that picture? of course, the museum may want to sell it. however, this could be to costly for some people.
>>
>>381031182
Moreover, this copy is practically worthless, while the original still has its worth and could be sold to someone interested in this worthy original. So is it stealing or more like taking a picture?

But if everyone pirates it then the creators makes no money. Like, let's say I'm an artist. Someone takes a photo of my painting and uploads it online. Why bother paying to go to art galleries when you can see it for free? If I get zero customers, surely I've been stolen from? It's not the painting itself that's been stolen, but my customer base

>>
>>381034548
> If I get zero customers, surely I've been stolen from
No. Unless you can prove that the person pirating would've bought your product if pirating wasn't available then you cannot claim each pirate is a loss in sells. Further more you also have to factor in people who pirate then buy the game. Also taking a picture of someone's art isn't illegal so that's a bad analogy. It's only illegal the moment you try to sell it or pass it on as your own. Also no one even fucking goes to art galleries anyways.
>It's not the painting itself that's been stolen, but my customer base
Loops back to proving that the person would've bought your product if piracy wasn't available. I've pirated some god awful games and bought games I wished I pirated. In recent memory I pirated Factorio and slime rancher and bought them both because they're great games but there are games that I've pirated, like Mass effect, that I would never have bought.

>a photo of my painting and uploads it online
Yes. Some people are going to see it for free. You know what else? If people like it enough, they will order prints off of you, or will go see it live themselves. This sounds crazy, but a supermajority of people have no idea how to even begin to pirate a game. Word of mouth is your best advertisement, and you get that when people who would otherwise never buy your product anyway pirate it and spread word. Even then, there are plenty of pirates who go on to buy the game anyways because they like it so much and want to support development of more. Have you ever considered why people willing to drop thousands on PC parts are unwilling to blindly buy new games? We just hate being screwed over. Piracy is protection from getting scammed by bad games.

It has been proven countless times that piracy boosts the sales of well made games, while damaging sales of low quality games. Worry about the quality of your work, not the money, and the money will come naturally. Focusing on money will, I promise, kill your product, and then those same companies go on to blame piracy instead of themselves. Vicious cycle that.

Imagine software as a two step process - you have the creation step and the distribution step. Creation costs money, because you have to pay people to work on the code. Distribution costs nothing, because every single computer can make a perfect copy of the code you create and send it to others.

Right now, companies are still trying to charge for the distribution step. This is self evidently stupid, because you have infinite supply at the distribution step, thus they're always competing against $0. They need to change their business model to charge for the creation step. Something like a non-shit kikestarter or patreon.

Copyright law further complicates this because disney is literally the most evil corporation on earth.
