But it wasn't entirely an improvement, not only for the reason that anon stated but also one of level design. Banjo's levels kind of fell flat for me because every part of the level was essentially a one trick pony for jiggies that falls into irrelevance after you get what you want. You don't have to really learn the level at all. It was a lot less structured in nature and the level couldn't be designed around a specific challenge. You also lost the satisfying and secret-hunting nature of getting a star/sprite before the intended time if you were stuck at something hard and were jonesing for stars.

It's not that the banjo-styled collectibles are a bad thing, it's more that pretending like it's a linear structure of improvement is incorrect. I'd vastly prefer a more sunshine-based system where one could be surprised and tackle something drastically new each time they went into a level rather than having it all there out. Odyssey looks like it is doing what it's doing right though, so it's probably still going to be fun.

I'm fairly certain there are still "episodes" with a main moon to collect. In the gameplay, there is a main "objective" marked on your map, which is the main moon, and this is the one you're supposed to collect which has a traditional Mario collection cutscene with Cappy. The side moons aren't part of the main objective and don't take you out of the world. There are times when the main moon will change the world's layout, like when the ice melts in the sand kingdom or when it becomes night in New Donk.

The chainchomp actually had a chain in Mario Sunshine, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Mario Party 8, Yoshi's Woolly World, and even its official art for Mario bros 3 has an actual chain.

We're beyond the technical limitations and they're done an actual chain before so it just seems odd.

This seems overly convoluted in order to accommodate the game mechanic in question. Like, why not just kick the rock directly at the piranha plant you wanna kill and kill it? Instead you kick it to a different piranha plant, who sucks it up like yoshi, you take control of it, then shoot it at the plant you want to kill. In Arms, button mode is actually the babby mode and has zero depth. The punches just go straight out with minimal tracking and have a set timeout when they return to you.

Playing with motion controls let's you arc and curve the punches as you throw them. The producer was curving his punches at the end to flick people while dodging their rushes and other moves.

You also suck back your fists way faster because there's more inputs because of motion to track so they know when you're pulling back.

All the shitters saying the game has no depth are all playing with button controls. They are purely there as a backup and design for playing non seriously in handheld mode etc while on the shitter.

I feel like Sunshine was easier for me to get used to. For starters I had to play with separate Joy-cons, which felt odd at first. Plus Mario has this weird startup when he walks that gets annoying, unlike Sunshine where the moment you start moving you're already sprinting. I get why they probably did it (more precise movement on a ledge) but it makes getting to a fast speed annoying.
A guy next to me taught me how to jump->dive->into roll->shake joycons for fast roll which makes you go really fast so that's nice

Because Sunshine is by far the worst Mario game, it's only saving grace is the movement since the mission/level design is nowhere near as vertical or designed to make use of the movement.
Take Gelato Beach for example it's essentially two flat plates with one elevated over the other which doesn't lend itself to much. There's more to a platformer than movement, level design is important too.

My guess is there will be somewhere around 9-10 kingdoms. The only question is, how many Moons each? I read an article where someone from Nintendo said "far more than the number of stars/shines in the other games".

Almost every Mario game/Nintendo title takes baby steps. Biggest problem with the game so far is that everything looks horribly easy. The bosses are easy, the platforming is easy, everything is easy as fuck.

Making health unreplenishable with coins and only rare hearts is a nice step up, but everything else looks horribly casualized.

We've seen extensive gameplay of three worlds, with none of them even being the tutorial area (the black and white hat kingdom). I have no doubt the game will be good but damn does it look like a cakewalk.

Impossible to say, this is something that Nintendo is never consistent with. Sometime their revisions are pretty big changes, sometimes they are the same guts in a slightly different shell. Why not just get one now if you want it? You can always trade it in/sell it later on if a significantly better revision comes along, Nintendo stuff holds its value pretty well in these situations.

if they are going minimal I would have preferred they made the elements smaller, or make it disappear when not in use. For the hearts, they should have removed that ring around it split the hearts into 3 sections and every time you're hit a section gets hollowed out. the tiny moons do not need a white circle behind them.
