Valve said they're not going to ever make HL3 because they're afraid the community's expectations are too high, and it could potentially damage their reputation irreversibly if they were to put out a HL3 that gamers considered subpar. They don't wanna fall into the same beartrap as BioWare in this regards.

So yeah, best move is to do literally nothing and wait for the cash to flow in.

People who work in creative fields rarely see anything they've done as reaching a 'perfect' state or ever being truly finished. There's always more shit you can do to make it better.

99% of the time creators only release something because their hand is forced and they're running out of money. It's the same thing with Star Citizen. If you have unlimited money and time and no one breathing down your neck then shit is never getting released
