The unfinished state of the game is most obvious in how sparse and repetitive the open world is. Sandbox design was a mistake IMO. Stealth games always work best in carefully designed enclosed environments. Quasi sandboxing like in Hitman would've worked best especially given that the mission based structure was used and if the missions were long and involved instead of the same 4 objectives over and over it would also eliminate the fucking waiting around for or inside helicopters.

Absolutely this. MGS 1-4 had branching paths and some backtracking but it was designed in a way that got you from set piece to set piece in an organized way at a good pace. I'm not against games going open world as a rule, but MGS makes no sense as an open world game. I don't even think it should have been a collection of Ground Zeroes-type bases like some people say. There is an indication of it though, kaz explicitly says he's gonna use venom (and eventually snake) to get back at big boss. it's not far fetched to say he led him down a path of destruction, considering he was basically trying to do that for a huge portion of the TPP incident.
Ocelot outright says he's leaving and going back to help real BB. Venom inexplicably becomes a monster when all we're left to assume is that kaz stayed to help him, then obviously abandoned him at some point before MG1. The cutscene to me shows venom isolated and lost. looking into a mirror trying to reflect.

At the end of the day it's all head canon. I don't mean to argue that i'm right in any way, because we can't 100% explain it either way because it's clearly all left up to interpretation no matter what.

We never see what Venom's goals with Outer Heaven are, though. We do see that Kaz doesn't involve himself with the operation regarding it, despite knowing more than enough about Venom/Big Boss and being active (having personally trained Solid before Outer Heaven uprising).

Kaz already said the whole situation was symbiotic parasitism. Venom clearly was heavily involved in the actual establishment of Outer Heaven, given he's the one who spearheaded nuclear disarmament, the Diamond Dogs are the ones who became Outer Heaven so he had to do with staffing, and he is the one personally there and in command ready to take full responsibility.

There's no telling what Venom would have done had he succeeded, but all signs point towards him doing things different than Big Boss tries to do in Zanzibar Land. MG1 is pretty much set in stone in terms of general story. However, there's still room to incorporate new ideas and concepts.

You can have multiple playable characters each with a specific mission.

Example: As Venom and Big Boss your goal is to build up OH and Foxhound. This means you shut down your rival PMCs and nab soldiers with the right kind of stats. Acting as if Snake was going to fail regardless.

As Gray Fox: You're Foxhound's Elite. With BB now "behind a desk" it's up to (You) to save the world. Basically it could be arcade-like in a sense you try your damnedest to get as far as you can in an OH Infiltration.

Then finally as Solid Snake: This is where the whole "redundancy" begins again. You know what you have to do, but the deck is stacked and you're solo.

Sure, but I don't see any reason to prioritize remakes over something entirely new that has all the freedom it could need to explore those new ideas and concepts. It would be different if Big Boss and Solid Snake had untapped characters, but they don't. We know all about them. I'd rather have something fresh.

Faithful remakes with new sprites or something that simply tightened up the balancing and curbed some of MG1's arcane demands could be cool as fuck, but that wouldn't be as useful for peoples' fanwank sessions.

I'm saddened the game didn't have more to do with PTSD and DID. I think that would have been a great main theme for this game considering the game is very rooted in espionage with an anti war message. Dealing with venom not being able to cope with two conflicting personalities in his head and not being able to tell what's real or not would have been cool. The gameplay effects could have been great too.
