It's not 100% confirmed but we have some pretty good evidence : Rex is using his grapplin/anchor in fight, there's a little pet in his helmet in a cinematic, the artworks in the menu are 2D and the blades are giving ether/physical resistance.

It isn't unlikely that all of his armor sets will have some sort of unique helmet and/or anchor to keep any unique or relevant effects.

2D menu art has appeared in many games before. And the crystal core unlocking does use the in-game models instead of art, so the models might also only show up in a customization menu.

Armor could give bonuses to player stats instead of Blade stats, or even stack on top of Blade stats.

Not saying that your evidence doesn't exist, but it can't be read only one way.

This is what I was thinking as well. Even if equipment modifies just player stats, phys and ether def aren't exactly the most useful stats. And speaking of stats, this time we have some new ones like dex and luck.

My guess is that luck will affect those health and gold drops and possibly rare drop tables. And maybe rare collectibles too, in which case everyone would start abusing the fuck out of that stat.

I got X back when it came out and sank some 50 hours into it, I had just got Skells, but then I got too busy with college for a while and after that I just didn't pick it back up. Now that I've graduated and Xenoblade 2 is in sight, I decided to pick X back up, but since it has been so long, I've started fresh on a new file. It's going to take weeks, but I'll definitely finish it this time. I just got to NLA and I'm loving it all over again.

That's not a very convincing argument when the Affinity Chart in the first Xenoblade had art of all the characters in their default outfits, regardless of what armor you put them in.

Its not absurd that his helmet and anchor parts will show up as different things with different equipment. He could still wear his anchor thing and have his pet on his shoulder if he goes unequipped. I think its manageable.

It's not absurd but I have a hard time imagining that when we are going to get a butt load of Blades which are Weapons and Armor in one (Plus with their own animations and voices) to make me think that they would also design a bunch of different armor for each of the -playable- characters as well.
Remembering this isn't X either so they wouldn't be churning out 1 armor for everyone to equip but designing 1 would be just for one person like XC due to the different body shapes / races.

Don't really like how there's only 3 abilities per blade (4th for special attack) and seem you have to built up in a fight to switch blades. Lack of armor (at least it seem like that is) would be awful. And not really a fan of how you seem to waste time digging out collectibles instead of just running them over.

I'm hopeful for the game but that stream really didn't do it for me.
