Is it the best JRPG ever made?>muh disc2
I couldn't get more than a few hours into it. It was terrible on every level.

the combat system is pretty dull
the plot is retarded even before it gets mangled by disc 2
95% of the characters were either obnoxious or boring, including the main party + villains
3d environments was a good choice. sense of scale is good. mitsuda soundtrack is always good. not even close to the best on the system, much less in the genre

But Disc 2 is the best partAlso yes, it is

It's one of the best games I've played with so obvious faults. Like there's so much wrong with it I don't even know where to start, but it's such an amazing game. No doubt part of it's mystique and feel can be credited to it's tradegy and lost potential, but for me personally Xenogears is one of the most impactful vidya experiences ever.

It's pretty limited at the start but it gets interesting as you go;plus it's a welcomed change from the usual combat that infests most old jrpgs

As opposed to what?Delinquent and idiotic MC + his mascot ? Apart from the amnesia thing at the start he's far better than most JRPGs MC
It has some inconsistent quality of writing (entirety of Shevat was done by the same fucko who wrote Chrono Cross for example) but it's probably the best Takahashi work overall and i feel like he will never surpass it, going down the shounenshit drain for the rest of his life.
Some of my favorite love stories in vidya too. I think only Automata rivals it in that aspect as both are built around the idea of cyclical struggle to be together across multiple incarnations.
I started it and lost all my money to rock paper scissors. I'll get back to it eventually.
