What is the most underepresented RPG class and why it is the monk?

Are monks ever good? If so, in what games?
>>380994040
because the unusual combination of xiaoling with christian clergy isn't easy to fit in all settings

Alchemist

Merchant

How are merchants supposed to fight?

i want to like monks because beating the shit out of stuff is my favorite, but it just doesnt mesh well with rpgs.
>mainly uses fists, no real need for weapons
>doesnt really use armor, cloth at most
rpgs usually involve getting badass weapons and armor, and here we have a class that doesnt have much choice in weapons and armor
>>380994707
they usually use money based skills in the games they're in
>>380994707
Literally use coins like throwing starsOr hire mercs

In Ragnarok they smack people with their shopping trolly or with massive bags of cash.

There's monks abso-fucking-lutely everywhere.
Try Bards.
Bards are key figures of medieval fantasy, and not a single shitting game actually makes male bards of any kind.
It's always some fucking mage slut that happens to sing on the side.

Deekin from Neverwinter Nights best bard

Final Fantasy Tactics. Had some good abilities and a good way to boost your characters' strength in the early game.

Battle Brothers has a minstrel background, you can have a bard bro in heavy armor who regularly causes morale boosting events with his lute
Necromancer as playable class, they are usually pretty popular as enemies but never as a playable character, not that there isn't games that allow it, but its pretty rare.

SaGa games do the archetype well enough even though there's no strict class system.
Making a character a monk has various benefits, you don't need to spend money on making weapons and maintaining them, bare handed techniques are perhaps the best in the games in terms of varied skillsets and utilities even though they don't hit as hard as other weapon types, moreover natural monks usually have higher stats related to healing magic and can also be used for magic support like buffs or creating magic shields or other utilities.
Not to mention that thanks to the freeform system of the series you can also put a heavy suit of armor on your monk and make it tankier than usual if you want to, or just use clothes to keep it fast, extra bonus if you uses robes so it's extra resistant to magic.
They're also one of the few RPGs series where monks can use legit wrestling moves like suplexes or various throws.
>monk
wrong
it's bard

Everquest had the best conceptual bard class done yet.
You could use actual instruments to power particular songs further, when you played a song the effect would last long enough that you could play another song and stack a different buff. The technique was called twisting, and involved actual mechanical skill. Good bards could twist like 5 songs continuously (this is where the carpal tunnel jokes spawned from)

The best bards are Hunting Horn users in Monster Hunter

Too bad hunting horns are garbage as actual weapons and do no damage, pretty much only useful for KOs

Champions were the absolute shit in Ragnarok. I fucking love that class. I don't think I've ever played another class in an MMO that was as satisfying to wreck the absolute shit with.
