I buy Nintendo consoles specifically for their first and second party titles. Any exclusives done by a third party, such as Mario + Rabbids, is just icing on the cake. Well, first of all, no it doesn't. The fact that Nintendo is only making one piece of hardware now just means they only need one piece of hardware to be successful. The bulk of income comes from software sales rather than hardware sales, and if software sells well on all of Nintendo's hardware rather than just half of it, that increases their profits significantly.

That said, it probably will do better than the 3DS long term. It has far more appeal in the west with the same appeal in Japan.

I disagree. BotW is a shining example how Nintendo scrapped the "games must be easy " mantra. From what I've seen of Odyssey it is also fairly challenging. And FWIW, even their easy games have challenges for experienced players. Take Wooly World for example, that game has some hard-ass levels you unlock by getting flowers.
