Depends on the mod, and depends on the price. Take for example, single pieces of armor vs the Immersive Armors pack. Wouldn't pay for single, but I might get immersive armors if the price is low enough. It's an extremely small part of the game and should have a small price as well.

I'd pay for fallout 4 mods that removed the dumb shit that conflicts with the established lore of the series and relplaces it with something better.

Really, I do think making mods is a form of labor, in a sense (You're making a product that brings Bethesda more profit in a way by making it more attractive to certain customers) and I think people should be able to sell them, but the system Bethesda wants (Bethesda gets a sizable cut from the modder's profits for doing jack shit) is awful and I hate it.

No. I have no idea how a mod might affect the game. No idea how well it works.

Furthermore, paying someone to alter someone else's work seems real skeevy. Or at least, selling mods does.

I'd donate money if someone made something I was happy with, though. Interface/menu mods, resolution fixes, that sort of thing. Because those are instances where someone is basically doing the developer's job for them, for free.

I think the only kind of mod I would actually pay for are the total conversion types.

Fuck paying for cosmetics in a single player game. I would never pay for any dumb joke mods or ui shit that should have been in day one.


I would say the vast majority of mods are things that are barely worth downloading in the first place. For every long war there's dozens of "hey we put commander Shepard in as a model" ones. It's kind of neat but definitely not worth money.

Absolutely not.
Modding should be done out of passion for the game and a desire to improve or add to it, not a desire to earn a couple bucks, especially when Bethesda will be the one stealing majority of the profit.

I wonder how Todd feels when he goes to browse mods for ideas for dlc/next game and sees shit like this.

There would have to be serious infrastructure around it for me to think about it. The company would have to go above and beyond on support to earn their cut, provide more and better modding tools, ensure patches won't leave mods broken, police mod submissions thoroughly, etc. I'm not inherently against paid mods, but if money is involved then I expect a professional and reliable product, which is more work than Bethesda has ever done and will ever do.

The only mods that people actually use are

There's no way any of those would be in the Creative-whatever-the-fuck, therefore it's worthless. The only mods they'll sell use are cosmetics that alter items and armors into memeshit. If they wanted to support something was clearly a legit attempt to the fix or improve the game, they'd pay the creator directly to implement it in the base game. But they aren't because that means they're admitting independent hobby devs are more competent than an entire AAA team. This whole thing is an obvious shekel ploy.
