If you mean the character portraits I much prefer the bright cartoonier art of HGH over the anime style of PC. However, the chibi art for the actual character models in HGH isn't as good as Wayforwards GOAT pixel art.

Certainly not the gameplay

The game manages this really impressive mix between cute and playful, but also slightly sexy. I'm not sure if they are going for that or which one overall but it is really impressive.

I started with the original game, and while I like the transformation dances and also want them to stay, Pirate's Curse definitely showed how much they're holding back the gameplay of the series in their current form.
In the games with transformations you're constantly having to stop, transform, perform a specific action with the transformation, and then turn back to normal when you need to use Shantae's default abilities or the abilities of another transformation, and it totally kills momentum.
Meanwhile in Pirate's Curse all of the abilities are seamlessly incorporated into Shantae's moveset once acquired, with no transformation sequences standing between you and the ability you need at the moment, and the game benefits massively from it.
