Wow that's rough. Probably half or better of the people I graduated with enlisted and ended up doing tours in either Afghanistan or Iraq or both. The only one that I'm aware of that died was our schools resource officer which for obvious reasons none of us were too close to. I've talked to other people that only knew a maybe 4 or 5 that served and had 3 of them die. War is crazy like that.

I live in a hick as FUCK town in southern Indiana. basically every male who graduated that june enlisted after 9/11. It was a fucking crazy time. All my friends's older brothers were suddenly going to some third world shithole on the other side of the globe and a lot of them died. I guess I got lucky by having an older sister with a fullride scholarship. It is so weird to me how huge that disconnect is, where basically all of us put our lives on pause to go and hunt terroirsts. The kinds born after 9/11 can get a drivers' license now. It's god damn insane.
