Honestly you can just download the game for free from emuparadise, and play it. Play it until you beat the first boss, it's not that hard to form your own opinion.

I wouldn't go that far, it's nothing that fantastical. The gameplay is standard JRPG fare, but with a health meter that counts down instead of instantly reducing, so you can save yourself if you take a deathblow and move fast to heal. It's hard to explain, but the game really sells you on it's setting, off-beat humor, and atmosphere. I wouldn't listen to the literal cultist who praise the game, but it's at least downloading and playing for a bit. If you come across the giant foot mark and you aren't invested, drop it
