Because over half of them are gated behind the Light Suit whereas in the first Prime you can at least get almost half of them before you get all your upgrades which makes replays of the game significantly more smooth since they're not as strictly item gated, where as the second one does not grant you such luxury so at the end you're just revising areas you've already spent hours in just to finish the game and some of them are massive slogs like the one where you have to go back to where you fought the Spider Guardian or the one in Submerged Torvus.

Not shitting, I talked with Mike Wikan, a high up dev on the project about this during a charity stream.
They had ideas for bosses (Thardus his core is actually red but in-game it gets converted to blue so maybe he was supposed to be lava themed) in Magmoor but decided against it since they wanted to make it the crossroads area where you could access most other major areas.

My favourite way to do Phazon mines nowadays is to enter from Magmoor Caverns with the Plasma Beam already. I can pick up the Power Bomb and Grapple Beam, exit to get the X-Ray Visor, then go all the way from the "start" to Omega Pirate without interruption.

Otherwise you just have a shitton of busywork treading over the same ground.

You also can't jump on the ring that circles the room and enables you to skip the Spider Ball.
Fortunately, you can still get the Power Bomb and Spider Ball before entering Phazon Mines. The only thing you're missing is the Grapple Beam, which you can still skip with the L-Lock Spring Jump from the stalagtite.

In Argon and Torvus the Backtracking is minimun, I don't know if later is worse, not counting the last keys. I hope not, if Sanctuary is at the levels of the first two zones,this game will be the best Metroid I ever played, discounting A2MR.

The keys are shit and they're everywhere. Torvus has the worst backtracking in the entire series with the Seekers, with the possible exception of the endgame keys.
Sanctuary is the best area in the game. The boss of this place is an absolute joy to fight. Prime 2 in general has excellent bosses.
