There are only two enemies in FGO:
The gacha rates (as in every mobage, but at least the silver and bronzes are useful).
The dearth of content to old players tired of reruns in the japanese version because they want to pander to the new players who came later.

It's not, a support can carry you up to Camelot which takes months or a year to arrive. By then you're expected to have leveled Servants. But even then, you don't need an all SSR team. Euryale, a *3 silver, is the best anti male unit of the game after her buff, so she can hurt the male Sabers. Mashu, your cost 0 unit, becomes after ingame power ups the best defense oriented unit. She starts meh, but do raise her. Her skills are cheap as fuck too and they are all worth it.

Not every Servant is a Heroic Spirit anyway, remember there are people who aren't like Guardians like EMIYA and Kiritsugu, Divine Spirits (which cannot be summoned in Fuyuki System, but can in Fate system), Anti Heroes like the Avengers, and misc creatures like the Phantoms (they don't qualify as Servants on their own, but they can if they fuse with a fellow Phantom like Hessian Lobo).

Basically she was kind of like a homunculus, but she's not called like that. She's an artificial creature who will cease to function when she turns 18 until the ending fixes her. Her magical circuits are also larger due to dangerous procedures her body overtook in order to fuse with a Servant. All the other Demi Servant kids die, she nearly does too, but Romani found out about the experiments, put the foot down until Marisbilly called that shit off and he saved Mashu from death's door. Mashu learned the meaning of "humane treatment" and started gaining emotions after meeting him.
Marisbilly is described by Roman as amoral and unethical but he does love humanity, and does everything for the greater good, as shitty his methods were, they were justified.

After that some fag in reddit discovered that you can play in RemixOS and /fgog/ found a way for some guys that have problems but at the start of the year DW fuck RemixOS as well. Now the same dev made a custom build for Memu, just search the archive of /fgog/

Same thing as Proto Cu, the stats are less important compared to the skills. Lancer Liz only has a party attack buff a lot of other servants have (her buff quest makes it give more attack to females though, which is nice in a waifu-collecting game like this), a defense debuff and a simple guts.

TL;DR: The game isn't hard enough that most of this shit matters, so playing with favorites is possible, though not optimal.

It is from Aniplex of America, so probably not including Australia in that. I know that most console game releases put Australia in with Europe, but I'm not sure if mobile handles it differently. With characters you mean servants?
If so, leveling them consist in two things:
>Farm exp cards
This is easy as the game has daily exp quest, each day has a different class except sunday who give random exp. Class exp can be used to level any class, but give a bonus for servant of said class.
But servants are locked to max levels depending of their rarity and you need to use materials to "unlock more levels", this is the hard part as farming this items is either grinding (low drop rate) or just wait for them to appear in an event shop.
Also note that different rarities have different max level. 5* have 90, 4* have 80, 3* have 70 and so on. But later in the game you will be able to use grails to max the maximum level of a servant (so you can get a 1* at level 100 if you want) though they are very limited.
