Just beat this game. Is Lightning Returns worth playing?
>>
It continues the trend of harrible story, but it's totally different otherwise. Having just Lightning with Hope as support worked out very well, surprisingly. I guess ensemble casts are overrated. It's good.
>>
>>380946329
It's pretty fun.
>>
>>380946672
>>380946621
How long would the main story take to complete? I just want to be done with the trilogy. I feel like the sequels were unnecessary.
>>
>>380946329
The story is whatever, but this game is all about helping people through sidequests and managing your time. It's really unique and nothing like the other two. The sidequests are varied too; it actually becomes kind of addicting. It has some really diverse and comfy locations, with Yusnaan, Luxerion and the Desert being highlights. There's also a lot of incentives to explore, like adronments and garbs for Lightning. It has a lot of replayability because chances are you'll miss some things on your first run due to the countdown clock.
>>
>>380946995
It's the shortest one, maybe 40~50 hours to complete, and that is if you want to do most of the sidequests.
>>
>>380947445
>shortest one
>40~50 hours to complete
Uh, I beat XIII in 30, and XIII-2 in 18 hours.
>>
>>380946995
How Long To Beat estimates 35, but I think I took around 50. I mean, it's a JRPG. You're not gonna get any closure from playing LR, but you'll probably have fun.
>>
>>380947603
>You're not gonna get any closure from playing LR
Are you serious? I only play these for the story.
>>
>>380947583
If you rush it, it'll probably take around 15-20 hours, but there's definitely a lot more to do in this one than the other two.
>>
>>380947583
>18 hours for XIII-2
I mean, the game is shit and all but 18 hours? That's some rushing ability you have there.
>>
>>380947695
I literally LOL'd watching the ending. They could've done some crazy shit with the premise too, but whatever. I'd say the game is more about character moments than the greater plot. I guess that's in contrast to XIII-1.
>>
>>380947939
All right, I hope I get to see more of my boy Caius.
I'm getting annoyed by the time system, though. Makes me stressed out for some reason.
>>380947923
Yeah, only hiccups I had with the game were with Chapter 4 and collecting the Graviton Cores. Other than that, it was pretty short, and I'm already good at rushing games (beat FFX in 30 hours in 3 days, trying to beat the trilogy and IX before the XII remaster comes out.)

So far I've beaten I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, X, XII, XIII, XIII-2, and XV.
>>
>>380948139
What are your favorites?
Least favorites?

What's a good order to play them all in?

Lightning Returns is the best in the trilogy,
and does its best to end the trainwreck plot of XIII-2.

Light's not bad of a character, and her best moments shine with Fang and Hope I feel.

XIII-2 felt like a chore for whatever reason, but LR and the Original game always had me hooked.
>>
>>380948139
Spam Chronostasis and you'll have over 7 days left
>>
>>380948262
>favorites
II (gameplay is pretty shit, but I enjoyed the story as well as Emperor Mateus), VI, VII, XII, X
>least favorites
VIII, III, maybe X-2 but I never beat that one

>good order
Literally does not matter. Pick up the one that seems interesting to. I played most of them in release order, but got incredibly burnt out when I got to VIII, so after that, I went out of order and played the ones that appealed to me.

>>380948506
Any downsides to that?
>>
>>380948585
seems interesting to you*
>>
>>380948585
Holy shit is VIII really that bad?
It doesn't look bad from what I've seen.
>>
>>380948697
>from what I've seen
Well, it has one of the best aesthetics and soundtrack in the series, but I thought the cast was insufferable and the Junction system was a bit of a chore to play with. The ending is definitely worth watching, though. Even though VIII is among my least favorite FF games, its ending is my favorite.

In regards to the main quests? None. The only quest that's mandatory to wait for a day is the first main one.

Some sidequests are time of day based however, similar to Majora's Mask.

Just as a note, I don't think it's possible to complete every single sidequest on a first playthrough. For slight story reasons though, so it's not completely left field.

The combat might be tricky though, if you've been used to CSB of XIII and XIII-2. There's so many different ways to stagger an opponent now, that it's insane.

I don't think I've mastered the combat of LR, and there's a lot of crazy shit that can be done with it.

On another note, I'm surprised the XIII games aren't your lowest. Most people here don't like 'em, but for what they do, I like the premise and cast a lot, so.
>>
>>380948836
Are you emulating or using the PSN store + Remasters? I just wanna know because I'm going to play through all the ones I've missed soon in time for Zodiac Age as well.
>>
>>380948836
The events leading up to Disc 4 were totally bananas. VIII's quality wasn't the most consistent thing in the world, but goddamn it had some great parts.
>>
>>380949027
>On another note, I'm surprised the XIII games aren't your lowest. Most people here don't like 'em, but for what they do, I like the premise and cast a lot, so.
I won't lie, but the visuals and cutscenes definitely helped the trilogy. Overall, I thought XIII and XIII-2 were mediocre games, though in my experience late-game bosses become HP sponges in XIII, like Barthandelus.

>>380949113
I-III: PSP
IV: PSP
V-VI: GBA
VII-VIII: PSN store versions on Vita
X: Steam
XII: Emulated
XIII trilogy: Steam
>>380949194
I was completely lost once I got to Disc 3, especially when it introduced Esthar City.
>>
>>380946329
No
>>
>>380946995

It's the second shortest FF after X-2. Based on your times, expect to be done before 10 hours have passed.

>Any downsides to that?

Technically none, but the monsters drop better loot on later days, so don't make them go extinct too quickly.
>>
>>380946329
not on pc

there's no mouse support, so you have to have both hands on the keyboard like you're playing touch fucking typing.
>>
>>380949729
>X-2
Shit man, I was going to finish that game before I even started the XIII trilogy, but the shift in tone from X was so jarring that I couldn't even get past the first few missions. Fun combat system, though, but it's literally a dress-up jpop game.
>>
>>380949749
Not only that, but the game stutters like a motherfucker on PC. I never had problems with XIII and XIII-2 (not after launch anyway) but LR will dip so frequently that I just stopped playing.

GBA > SNES

It's miles better than the mobile garbage they just threw onto Steam. I still literally cannot believe they thought t looked good.

the story is nonsensical at this point but the gameplay is better.

Music may be bad, but ignoring new content is a crime
>>
>>380951089
Like most rpgs, FF6 already overstays its welcome. After getting the airship in the WoR, the game is a bit of a mess. It doesn't need to be any longer desu.
>>
So Lightning ends up with Hope, or just implied like a lot of the FF romances that aren't on the cover art? I honestly thought Lightning was basically female Cloud in personality (i.e. emotionally shattered loner), especially after XIII.

>or just implied
Just implied. A lot of the super subtle subtext is lost in translation however.

Light's only a Cloud clone for like 3 hours of XIII-1. She's pretty much the cool big sis archetype, that sorta realizes she can't do everything alone.

Spoiler:
It's Hope that snaps her out of that mentality by the end of XIII-3

a 7/10. Pretty likable. Her deadpan moments are funny in a world where people tend to get stupidly serious.

>>380952672
Yep
It doesn't become canon until the post-LR novella though
>>
>>380946329
Having to focus on the two worst protags in final fantasy history I would avoid it all costs.
>>
I coudn't even finish XIII
>>
>>380946995
Well they are, they just shit on their original story because they know it was really stupid.
>>
>>380953635
The original story had a main bad guy tell the party that he wants them to kill him, and that doing so will destroy their world. The party decides to charge directly at the main bad guy and kill him. Their world gets destroyed and only a bullshit deus ex machina that they had no idea would occur saves it.

It's not possible to shit on something this bad.
>>
>>380953941
that's what I mean, the original story was with the crystal holding up Caccoon. Then they say fuck it let's use time travel to erase this main story with another retarded plot. I'm sorry if any one here is a fan of 13, but holy shit I hated this entry. The characters were awful, aside fromaybe sahz. Even then I only liked snow because of how dumb he was.
>>
>>380954243
Why was Caius made a l'Cie but Noel wasn't?
>>
>>380954892
fuck if I know, Caius may have been the stronger choice since Noel was just a student or something along those lines, plus his will to protect yuelle.
>>
>>380954892
Etro didn't make him a lcie, a Gran Pulse Falcie did

Noel was never approached by Falcie in his time
>>
>>380946329
It's the best one.
