Maybe cut a few scenes out of the third chapter involving her family. As far as its use of relevant themes to show an interesting character arc I think it actually does a good job. Its only real flaw is how long-winded and dull it is.

I mean I prefer the direction the original author for that route first came up with, but the other authors dismissed it as being too edgy, and it wouldn't have fit in very well with the rest of the final game tbqh.

Giving Hisao a few fake choices during acts 2 and 3 would have been a nice touch too.

True. All of that has been released as a separate 'alpha repair' version. It has more immature writing but some of the routes are better than the final ones imho. Hanako's true ending is the best route overall.

That is a thing, though not what I'm referring to.

It's been a few years since I've been active on KSG but from what I remember there were four versions of KS:
The very alpha, with completely different art. This was an old demo of sorts.
The newer alpha, which had artwork more similar to the final game but a much edgier story (I think Hanako was a legit yandere in this one)
The beta, which was essentially an unpacked version of the final game
And of course the final game, which was obfuscated when exported by RenPy.

Like I said this is from memory so I could be wrong.

I really liked it, but it had some pretty jarring flaws. The art is extremely inconsistent in quality, the routes branch off in totally counter-intuitive ways, and to lock off certain routes until all the other ones have been played is a shitty thing to do. I wound up just using a guide in the end because actually getting the good endings for some of the characters was nothing more than obnoxious trial-and-error.

Having said all of that? Top-tier OST, and Masha's route was brilliant and uncanny.
