Finally, BADASS CEO Randy Picthford is one step closer to finance Borderlands 3.
He is working hard on siphoning money from the recently independent IO Software (Hitman series) to make Borderlands 3 possible.
God Bless Randy BADASSERY!!

Oh shit I forgot about that. When everyone called Randy and company out of using G2A, didn't he pin the blame on PCF?

Just like how he pinned the blame on Colonial Marines all on Timegate, the poor company they outsourced to that had no idea of all the bullshit Randy was pulling?

No, nobody can be that dumb.

They just got really fucking lucky. Gearbox was never a studio capable of facing the big bois in either quantity or quality, they just happened to make the first well-executed combination of FPS and Diablo-like looting. Stealing some poor bastard's art and never compensating him helped too. Unfortunately, it turns out FPS+loot is an incredibly simple concept that any and everyone could copy and do just as well, but with higher production value (Destiny, The Division). Combine that with a poorly-balanced sequel (BL2 scales like Oblivion) and fill your writing with obnoxious SJW shit and there you go. Gearbox was never good.

Didn't Uwe Boll get his funding through some weird tax loophole? Also Postal was a legit good movie

Gearbox isn't self-sustainable so they need a publisher for big name titles, not re-releases of games nobody asked for. No publisher will work with them after they robbed SEGA, and even though 2K owns the Borderlands franchise, they'd be hesitant to give Randy money to make a new one because how much Battleborn hemorrhaged money and continues to do so, because Randy is so stuck up his own ass that he won't just cut his losses and move on.

Yeah, movies that lose money could be counted as business losses under German taxes, so he got investors, went all horrible movie, lost their money, and got huge refunds from the govt himself claiming business losses. Making a successful movie actually hurt him financially. It's like The Producers, but he was never successful.

No one will believe me, but I use to work for TimeGate, As a resident of Sugar land Texas (Go astros!) there really wasn't/isn't a huge scene down here for that kinda work. I wasn't some important guy, I was just a code monkey who did renders of level design. Basically all I did was take what the artist drew/designed, put it into the system digitally and added texture on.

The overall aspect of the whole project came crashing down hard about half way through, Gearbox gave us little to absolutely no help with anything, when they kept saying they would help out more, they never did. We had a huge issue with the ps3 version, it was constantly falling apart, our team had very little help with that version in particular. We would send basically what amounted to S.O.S to gearbox pleading for help with the ever increasing work load they kept piling on us. They wouldn't get back to us for a week at most, basically telling us "sorry we are just too swamped over here :^)" then they would get pissed off at us for having such a rough time, delaying build updates ect. Randy in particular is a huge asshole, he came down to our studio maybe once or twice. The whole time talking down to us, and joking around about "Gearbox should just buy up our tiny studio and show us how a real company runs haha Jk" We all hated him with incredible depth. Finally before Gearbox was suppose to show off the work to Sega suits, they demanded we get up to speed in less than a month. At that point, myself, along with the entire Pecan team basically hit rock bottom. We worked 16 hours a day trying our best to get it going, all along with Gearbox shitting on us in technical support, demanding insane all of a sudden changes (As in they demanded we change entire chapters/sections based on bizzare script changes)

Finally much pain, we turned in what we had and Gearbox basically went apeshit at the state of the product. It was barely ass functional. It was so broken and beat up that during a showing of the first few chapters to Sega suits, the ps3 version crashed twice, the 360 version crashed, the pc version was the only one that looked like it was ok (due to us using top of the line gear and basically brute forcing it to function and having that version heavily pre-scripted which was a idea forced upon us by gearbox, similar to the E3 demo before it) Sega was absolutely livid, they were threatening legal action on Gearbox, who in turned blamed it on us not having enough people to properly bug test. So with a wink and a smile, Gearbox said all they had to do was take what we did back to their own studio and plug in a few things and it would be 100% perfect. Sega believed them, told us to basically fuck off and let Gearbox get away with the abuse. Of course the game ended up getting delayed again, and Gearbox blamed it on us giving them a different build when certification came around. So they got out of the blame game again.

in the end, we ended up not getting our much desired milestone bonuses, a good portion of money we were owed for overtime, Gearbox was suppose to pay us out all that from the money that Sega gave them and was suppose to budget it out to us.

I ended up quitting not too long before TG shut their doors for good, I now no longer work in the Game industry, my general hate for it now landed me a career as a logistics manger at a corporate logistic warehouse.

no problem y'all. I have had a vendetta against Gearbox since then.
When anons on here post Gearbox memes and fuck randy memes, its the only thing that can be taken as fact on this site. It is such a scummy company, I was just talking to one of my old TG buddies today about how badly they are crashing right now. We got a hold of some of the other guys, and decided the day they die is the day we go out and get smashed and celebrate at the nicest restaurant we can find. A lot of the old Pecan team ended up leaving the industry after that, a few went on to other companies, one guy in particular went on to join the boys over at Zenimax, I believe doing ESO work (which believe it or not he has said its very nice over there and everyone seems to love their job/comforting environment and friendly) Some went on to do mobile stuff.

>>380933441
Gearbox sold snake oil to Sega in many different ways, we originally had an agreement with Gearbox to create a gorgeous custom engine JUST for this game alone. Lots of focus on deferred lighting methods and some great ambient sound design (think deadspace one) We were all VERY excited thrilled to get the honor to work on the game at first, lots of nights out drinking after work talking about childhood experiences with the movies and stuff, but Randy and company decided instead of such a engine, they could save a ton of money for themselves and use what ended up in the game at release, but they still wanted us to hack it together to include all the pre planned custom engine details. (Which was impossible because of technical constraints) that is why the final game feels so broken, it was hacked together Frankenstein style and shocked to life over and over and over with Gearbox's demands and constant changes

Yes it was, we had several different builds internally. Our first build was titled "Saltlick" (which was a popular BBQ joint near us) and that build did have that infamous hallway e3 standoff. That build was centered team based gameplay, similar to the brothers in arms series, you could command your small marine squad to weld doors, move in cover, ect Most of the original narrative with this build was based about your marine squad, which was called "heartbreakers" coming to investigate the fallout after the movie explosion. We wanted to make it feel very bro and buddy buddy, squad mates would dynamically chatter during battle, commenting on things that were going on at the time, they would talk shit to each other ect. over the course of the game, they would slowly start to get killed off, getting beat down and desperate ect. After about 3 years on this version. Gearbox came in and said "ok well we dont want this anymore, we want a pure FPS because thats what sells well, not squad games" (well along that line, thats the gist of it)

Sony rep that came in weekly told us about this great deal and was shilling the game for a full month before its release. 1500games were for sale. It's release day only sold 100 of them out of all retailers nationwide. Last there for two months before the Sony rep told us that the game was going F2P, but it's a great idea to get it anyways since it unlocks everything.

So we fought to retain anything we could from "Saltlick" but Gearbox had our heads to the ground with "we control your money, you'll do what we say :^)"

The next build, which was called "Big Red" (after the texas brand soda) was a much more close resemblance of the final product, one of the main differences being it still had the buddy buddy squad aspect, but this time it was just a straight FPS.

Finally Gearbox came in, saw our work on that one, and said "Well we came up with our own narrative, do this or else" its the one that everyone got, completely changed story, completely new characters (added female characters) and lots of new and worse level designs that could accommodate basically running and gunning freely (the other two builds had a lot of close quarters, dark hallways, twisted metal everywhere, basically what you would expect after a major explosion because while the nuke blast was powerful, it didn't go down into the earth, which is where a lot of hasleys hope was built up at, lots of internal FOX documents show parts of the facility that have never been shown or mentioned publicly)

Actually no, Gearbox was hands off for the first two builds, we did whatever we wanted narrative wise. When they came in and changed the narrative to their own liking in the "Pecan" we had no say in that version. They did add in females just because. But I am about 90 percent sure that Sega told them very bluntly DO NOT add in memes or social issues.

>>380936608
Yes, he did in the DLC but we didn't get to meet him or do anything really with that stuff. He did it all at gearboxes studios, I heard he hated the experience because from what I know he was really excited to get back in the roll and Gearbox ruined it for him, by constantly changing voice acting appointments on him, not keeping him up to date on the DLC stuff ect. Basically they gave him a pat on the ass and a smile as they thew him around. But he was forced to play nice and endorse the DLC in any interview for websites ect. Similar to how Bill Murray was forced to pretend to like the new ghostbusters. Cause Sega felt if he was negative about it, they would lose a ton of money from it, they really felt that people would go out and buy the DLC and stuff just for him.

IIRC after getting his dirty hands on the Duke Nukem franchise, Randy decided to bring together some of the guys that used to be working on duke nukem forever before getting acquired by gearbox

He promised the guys developing DNF great salaries, help from gearbox and bonuses after the game shipped, then with the contract in hand Randy forced the developers to work for very little money, gave them no help, until a couple of months before release and fired them 1 week before releasing the game, saying that the developers didnt met the milestones set upon them by gearbox

Randy's team "finished" the game and released it to great release day sales, but terrible critic scores. He made some money on the game, but at the cost of losing credibility and treating some people as subhumans
>>
Why is Randy so retarded to respond to everything online?

Much like Borderlands, the comedic lines themselves are far from the worst part of the game. The problem, as outlined earlier, is that the rest of the game is tedious and an eyesore, and with a game like Battleborn you're going to get these lines thrown in your face over and over again. Whatever good will they had will be dragged down by dealing with the rest of the game and then buried with their repetition.

/v/ isn't some super secret club either. The amount of people that visit this place even just to lurk is insane, internet normies from all over as well that come to check it out. It's the most entry-level board on the site (which is obvious because the quality of the posts is so low). That's sad. This woman saw her lives's dream fulfilled only to never get another job doing it again as is struggling to keep hold of herself. Fuck, that'd make a good movie. Not starring her
Randy, on the other hand, is pathetic as a scummy weasel that would sell out his mother for a buck

hey man context is key
>VA's ask for better working hours so they don't ruin their voices or whatever because dumbfucks in charge don't know how to manage
This is acceptable. This is what they asked for.
>oh and give them residuals, too
This is retarded and unacceptable. Not even the programmers and you know, people actually working on the game get residuals. But the union turned down an offer granting them everything but the residuals, so it's clear to see what the strike is all about, just people being greedy. Fuck em' anyway. Non-unionized VAs are shit but so are most of the unionized.

All unions aren't equal, either.

One of my old friends used to tell tons of horror stories while he was working ground crew at Delta, about what bullying and terrorizing assholes the local union was in the face of constant rejection, since they had better conditions and pay without the union than equivelent ground crew in union on other airlines.

Unions were needed to counter some evil as fuck people once. To a degree they still are, but as often as not, now they're the evil ones craving power and doing anything they can to hold on and wield that power.

It looks like it uses a newer version of the Glacier Engine 2 which was originally made for Hitman Absoultion so unless they did something stupid then they would still own the rights to it.

https://hitman.com/en-us/news/announcing-hitman
>we have revamped pretty much every system in our Glacier engine

There's no English wikipedia page for it but it is both easy to understand the jist of it and it has English sources.

You guys ever thought about getting back together as an indie studio, making a small but fun game? You sound like the type of person we need to be making games, instead of corporate sjw pandering shitstains.
>>
>>380951964
Oh shit, all those games were all published by them? Well I'll be happy if they somehow get to publish â„¢ from now on, since I doubt the Deathwing devs would be able to afford this constant support and 7GB patches for free without them. Too bad the devs for Mordheim and Battlefleet Gothic didn't decide to do the same with their games.

The mechanic would have been more interesting if the Xenomorphs didn't keep looking at you the entire time.
>>
>>380935925
I think this is something coming from Take Two, that Randy has to keep reiterating. Like the dude is out of his mind but this seems like a corporate thing he has to abide by.

Because "free trial" in some legal sense is probably distinct from "free to play"
>>
>>380927194
Warframe already fills that niche.
>>
>>380947882
Holy fuck, I forgot all about that. Early to mid 2000s internet drama was fucking amazing.
>>
>>380954802
I'm sure its Randy's pride. It's his private twitter, I'm sure there are legal arguments for "this is his personal opinion, not corporate talk."
2K would likely be more than happy to call it free-to-play, and attract some audience, even if technically it isn't f2p.
I haven't looked closer, because its fucking Battleborn, but can you actually play the entire game or is content blocked to the "actual" version?
>>
>>380955304
>2K would likely be more than happy to call it free-to-play

Take Two hasn't exactly been logical or reasonable lately, consider that they are also the ones going after GTA roleplayers with offline mods for literally no reason, even rockstar doesn't know why
>>
>>380955304
The PvP content is the only thing playable and the roster has a LoL rotation.
The full game let's you play any character and have access to the PvE content.

I guess you can call it F2PvP.
>>
>>380952725

You've pointed to totally irrelevant examples. Good job? His point was unions no longer serve the purpose they once did IN THE WEST. All that will happen is they will make a good game (or not) and then some big company like EA will throw hundreds of millions at whoever owns the company to buy it.

They will then run it into the ground and dissolve it purely to own the IPs.

We have seen this time and time again, greed rules.
