He's only the producer, so he's got a relatively hands-off approach to the game. The story is already written for him because it's a remake, the map design is being done by the guy who worked on Fusion/Zero Mission, the music is being done by the Super Metroid team. Sakamoto is fine as an overseer, the issues start when he tries to tell a story or make retarded decisions like forcing the player to use a d-pad to control a 3D action game.

Not that anon but a producer can either do jack shit or totally take over the project. But if it's the latter they usually plant themselves in the position of director. Judging from sakamoto's comments he's being the overseer on this game, and he's back in his old place. He knows he stepped out of line with Other M. They gave this to a western dev that's using the prime art style. There's no sign of his shitty characterization and storytelling. It's basic bitch metroid before Other M. I'm not worried about it.

The only red flag was he was interested in Metroid 2 because it's when samus meets THE BABY. This is either innocuous because it actually is a part of the series that's important and needed to be brought out of obscurity anyway (Super and parts of fusion don't make complete sense without it), or we're fucked and he's going to shove in some shitty cutscenes in the ending.

People latched onto AM2R because it was the first experience semi-resembling a pure Metroid game anyone had in almost a decade. Because of this it was treated like mana from Heaven and praised to ridiculous levels.
