His concept Art was godtier back in the day.

He was always good with the stuff on the periphery of making a game, the concepts, lore, initial design, etc. The problems arise when putting all this shit into execution. Like George Lucas he used to have the reins on him at one point but now he has no barriers and it killed what was good about him in a collaborative setting.
