Even I wouldn't say that. It has some pacing flaws, is a bit too easy, and some elements are underdeveloped, but I still think it's a phenomenal game.

Only game to come close to beating it in 10 years is Undertale but it's still better

It's VERY likely that those people were playing on a reproduction gba cart of the fan translation. If you play using a rom you should be just fine.

I have played the fan translation for almost ten years now (it came out in 2008) and have never had any problems with it in terms of lost saves. The fan translation is considered by many the greatest fan translation ever done for a game, and for good reason.

However, and this is a problem that relates the original released so even playing on a Japanese cart you can encounter this, there is a glitch that can occur in one of the save points. There is a save point where if you save, turn off the game, and reload there is a chance your character will be glitched into a area they can not move in. Technically if you're playing on an emulator you can use cheats to bypass this but still.

Mother 3 is awesome. It's a perfect marriage between graphics, sound design, script, and gameplay. It's such a work of art that I don't even want to talk about it on 4chan

I would be hard pressed to name my top 10 games of all time, but regardless this game would not be in it. I enjoyed what time I spent but I have never felt the desire to go back and play it again. It's nice, but not great.

It does matter somewhat.
There's an optional thing in battles where you kinda play like a rhythm game and you hit the button after an attack in the correct rhythm to do extra damage. Doesn't really work well in computer emulators, although that was the case like 7 years ago I don't know how it is now

My biggest problem with it. The world felt very small, like I was just being led from scene to scene. JRPGs are at their best when they have some openness.

I will say I find it more difficult then Earthbound overall, some bosses like the Jealous Bass the Barrier Trio (not understanding thier gimmick can make it quite hard if you're underleveled) but overall it isn't too difficult.

What I dislike is how much creativity they show with the combat system but never expand on it. In the the Club Titiboo attic one enemy, the Beaten Drum, will change battle songs when battling it. This would have been a great gimmick for a boss or some enemies but no other enemy does this. The steel mechorilla has a cool gimmick as well where if you hit it with PK thunder it can malfunction and gp beserk on you. No other enemy does anything like this though either.

As I said Mother 3 is my favorite game ever made, but I accept its flaws and won't deny there are aspects that could be better.

I just found the plot structure jarring. It had Dragon Quest IV's chapters, but unlike that game, events didn't cleanly lead into one another.

I preferred how Earthbound blended the surreal with strong structure.

Originally there was twelve chapters planned in the n64 version but it was cut in the gba version. As I said the game's pacing is a bit shitty but noting awful in my opinion.

Personally I felt that Earthbound wasn't supposed to be as story driven as MOTHER 3 was, I just thought of it as a simple JRPG where some kids fight some aliens. It does have some touching scenes in it, but I felt like there wasn't enough "story" to be had.

Personally I prefer Earthbound over it, but one thing for sure is that i love the new battle system, despite failing to get a 16 hit combo on the most tough in battle songs to sync with the rhythm.

This. the mother series in general is more of "it's about the journey and not the destination" style series. Earthbound's story is never meant to really be considered, it's just some goofy kids fighting weird monsters. With M3 Itoi actually did something different instead of just doing the same thing again.
