Maybe it's because Metro 2033 is shit.

There are plenty sandboxy areas inbetween the more linear ones. Metro has a certain rythm.

Fuck the game, read the book. Maybe try last light because it's more like an actual game since it doesn't follow the book.

I don't know why people criticize last light for being an original story so much when 2033 barely followed the story at all and everything suffered for it.
