I could barely get under 120 on Expert, and that was when I used to play a lot. I'd probably have trouble getting under 200 right now.

Once you know the rules and a couple tricks it all boils down to luck. If there's a one in the corner or a three on a wall, it obvious what to do. The only time it ever gives me trouble is when it comes down to complete luck.

My best was getting down to 55 unmarked mines left out of the total of 777 and it took over 30 minutes to get there. That difficulty is a real time sink for like a 1% chance of winning thanks to the multiple 50/50 you have to guess right

Pay attention to those three 2's in a vertical line. They all only need one more adjacent bomb. The top-most 2 basically says that either the block to the right of it, or bottom right of it, must be a bomb.
The middle 2 will also be touching whichever of those blocks ends up being the bomb. So this middle 2 will also satisfy its remaining adjacent bomb with one of those two block. Since the middle 2 is now filled, the green marked block cannot be a bomb because it is touching the middle 2.

I realize I didn't communicate well. Each red circle (they were meant to be overlapping ovals) contained one mine. Among the 4 circles, there could only be 3 mines, so one of the mines had to be in one of the overlapping corners.

I upgraded to Windows 10 (fuck me) and sadly the normal minesweeper isn't bundled. Instead they have some retarded game. Nevertheless I play it. There is an adventure mode. I am currently on level 1586. Once you die you have to start all over again, but you can collect shields and eventually once you have enough it's really easy to stay alive...damn I'm being autistic.

i downloaded some clone for my phone when i'm on the underground, always thought the undecidable situations were because of the rng and odd layouts of my version

would it be theoretically possible to come up with a mine placing algorithm that prevents situations like >>380878940 to happen?

I've heard of minesweeper versions that detect 50/50 situations and always give it to you when it's truly impossible to tell. Similarly, they can also program it such that any guesses when you should know better will result in mines being moved around under the hood to make sure you die.
