Kart Racers never needed saving. Double Dash, DS, Wii, and 7 were all good games, and a superior non Mario option came out months before 8 first did on WiiU.

I would legitimately agree that Splatoon is a step towards saving console shooters. It is the only one that I can actually enjoy playing thanks to the improved controls. Arms, Smash, and Mario Kart or more of a branch to the side rather than something that would change the genre as a whole.

The game requires balance even on turf war. The rapid shooting weapons with a low range allow for you to quickly take ground, but the ideal strategy is still to take the mid ground and secure the best defensive positions to keep the enemy out. This is where the e-liters come in. You don't need to cover ground quickly if the enemy can't push in on you. Running in circles to get a high score is not helpful at all. The Splatter shot is probably the best for balance, but the Jr does stand out because the bubbler is such a good special. The aerospray would be the best weapon if it were all about painting, but it quickly becomes less effective against people who know what they are doing.
