During the entire game the main theme is the human element of how a totalitarian state ruins the ethic and morale of people. Your neighboors are fucking scum who report your suspicious activities, your family is starving frequently if you fuck up a lot, the bureocracy gets more and more complicated allowing fewer people in and forcing you to become a robot about it. Add the fact that Kolechian scum , terrorists and rebels are trying to sneak in.

You clearly either missed one of the main points of the game entirely when it's a huge part of the narrative within the paperwork simulator, which I find astonishing since the game won't stop showing how bleak and miserable it is for everyone involved in the small checkpoint, from the civs in the line to the guards or you are just a commie, in that case fucking kill yourself you piece of shit.

Soma is pretty cool in this regard. It's just such a shame that it does not do anything beyond this mechanics-wise or even with the presentation. It's at core such a dull game - it's not even scary, it's not very immersive because there is so little actual meaningful interaction with anything, the entire stealth aspect of it is just pointless and annoying instead of involving, and it even looks and sounds meh.

All the while having some really cool ideas that really deserve to be portrayed SPECIFICALLY in a videogame. Like: it's the best medium to actually tackle these cool themes: it's just that this particular game really fails to do it right.

I still like it, I would not disencourage people from giving it a try, but it does feel like a major missed opportunity.
