Thank god the fanbase is finally waking up to Paradox shit

>DLC out of their asses

Fans of this company always said: LOL the basegame is big enough so stop complaining
The problem is in EU4 there is a penalty on specific inventiopns and playing outside of europe without DLC is nearly impossible because its going to take hundreds of years to get the same level of development.
Well the way to stop that: Buy DLC

>DLC making games a big mess

This happened o Crusader Kings 2. The last 4 big DLC's made the game a huge clusterfuck of shit

Paradox prior to CK2 was a pretty good company. Content changing DLC was all essentially full sized expansion packs, and limited to just a few expansions per game (EU3 had 4, HoI3 had 3, every other game only had 1 or 2). There was other DLV, but it was all purely cosmetic or music shit that you really didn't need at all.

Then CK2 came along, and is sitting at 13 game feature changing DLCs. Previous Paradox games were complete at release, albeit buggy. Meanwhile, several of CK2's early DLC should have been part of the base game (Sword of Islam, Legacy of Rome, The Republic), and few have enough content to warrant their price (The Old Gods, Charlemagne, Rajas of India are the only ones, and Charlemagne is debatable). Most gameplay changing DLC simply feature a single mechanic that barely interacts with any other mechanics and usually doesn't work properly.

Subsequent games follow this same model. EU4 is sitting at 11 major DLCs, and the sasme criticisms of CK2's DLC apply. Stellaris and HoI4 both released in a horribly incomplete state, and have already seen 2 major DLC releases in one year.

I used to be a huge fan of Paradox, but they've completely broken the trust that I had given them.

Paradox is awful because they have a large and significant defense force of drones who haven't woken up yet. This is because they used to be a pretty good company.
These are the type of people that see absolutely nothing wrong with semi-annual $20 DLC that adds critical features to the game.
>>
>>380854639

I never really played the HoI games. EU, EU2, CK1, Victoria, EU3, EU:R, and Victoria 2 were all released in a complete state, and their expansions were all truly additions and sufficient in size to be worth the expense.

They change things in the base game, most notably base tax into development, and then charge money for the ability to improve development.
>>
>>380856095

They release patches that contain part of a feature, so that people without the DLC experience the downside but can't get the benefits.

>>
>>380856471
Yes? You can roll back to earlier patches so you lose literally nothing from the game being updated.

Why is it always so obvious when people who don't even play games try to have an opinion on something?
>>

>Without DLC Paradox would've stopped updating EU4 5 years ago.
Good. It's been nothing but feature bloat for the past two years at least.
>>380856345
>Mare Nostrum
They made espionage somewhat useful.
>Mandate of Heaven
They made Japan functional.

Paradox should have released one large expansion a year for about $25 and focused primarily on fixing things that were barely functional. Instead we got shit like Cossacks.
>>
A shame because I was interested EUIV. But if the devs are going to lock key features behind downloadable ""content"" then it makes zero sense to support this practice by buying the game.

Except the Copyright Act of 1976 wasn't written specifically for Disney. It was enacted to bring US copyright law into alignment with the Universal Copyright Convention and to participate in drafting the Berne Convention, all of which were ultimately derived from French copyright law (which has a very different philosophical basis than Anglo-American copyright law). Naturally, Disney supported this move, but it wasn't done specifically for Disney. The subsequent copyright extension acts were basically sponsored by Disney, with support from several other media companies.

US copyright did not apply to foreign works in the 19th century. Charles Dickens licensed US publisher to print authorized versions of his works and to advertise them as such, and those authorized versions vastly outsold the unauthorized versions.

In the 18th century, there were many innovations in steam engines that the British crown did not grant a patent. The inventors ended up creating joint companies to coordinating sharing schematics and plans, and then made their money through offering technical support services. Today, Red Hat and many other companies use a similar model, in which the basic product is free, and the revenue comes in the form of providing technical support for the free product.

I was just saying that one particular act was not written specifically for Disney. The subsequent acts were. The article that was linked seemingly implied that they were all written for Disney, rather than only the post-1976 laws.

I still think we should repeal the Copyright Act of 1976. Replace it with the previous copyright filing requirements, make the copyright last for 10 years, and then allow 10 year extensions. Make the initial cost of filing $100, and then make each subsequent extension cost 100 times more than the previous. Extension 1 costs $10k, extension 2 costs $1M, extension 3 costs $100M, etc. If they want an indefinite copyright, then they'll have to really pay for it.

By your own logic I can release some worthless DLC, bundle it with all my base games, no longer sell the base games by themselves and sell my new DLC bundle at higher than the regular price because the DLC bundle is a new product that adds subjective 'value' to the product.
It's the same situation that preys on consumers lack of information but somehow you seem to think they're not equivalent.

That's not preying on purely a lack of information, though. A customer with more information would not be in any better of a position; they'd still be fucked if they wanted to buy the new game. It is not equivalent.

You've also taken the ass retarded step to assume I'm against other consumer protection laws because I said that your other situations are not equivalent to a fake sale. I'm not wasting my time with your retardation any longer. Kill yourself.

>a consumer with more information would not be in any better of a position
And neither would they be if I owned all the storefronts for my product (e.g. steam) and raised my prices universally while claiming it was on sale. Both parties would have no choice but to purchase the product or not buy it at all. Both would still be fucked if they wanted to buy the game.

>You also assumed I'm not against other consumer protection laws
And I argued that unless sweden actually codified and implement all those consumer protection laws then those laws are nothing more than easily circumventable statues that provide nothing but a false sense of security for consumers.

Take Two and Rockstar do this. The first Steam Sale GTA was part of, they raised the price to something outrageous, threw in a shark card, dropped it to 60 dollars and called it a bargain.
>>
>>380860564

In one scenario an innocent child is being abused, in the other an adult gets a little bit less money than usual. If you can't see the difference then you're an autist.

And this is why I don't buy games until they are dirt cheap and come in GOTY editions with DLC bundles. In Paradox's case I pirate them. Fuck shady practices. I hope the whole industry crashes so the only ones left making games are people who actually care about them.
>>
>>380860770
remember when companies were after customers and not money?
>>
>>380861703
No. There was literally no time like that.

The whole gaming crash happened for the complete opposite reason.
>>
>>380861626
You can't buy GTA V in any bundle unfortunately. That's how they jew you. All of it is multiplayer content that requires you to spend hundreds of hours or hundreds of dollars to get. Literally F2p tier behind several layers of paywalls. Actually the CEO of take two thinks people who don't buy their shark cards are leeches according to an interview he did. This is why I will probably not support them again.
>>
>>380857908

It's not only unfair for the customer, it's also a very shady business practice and very damaging to free market competition compared to other firms who do not practice this.

>>
>>380857089

The entire concept of an IP is just a state-issued license to monopoly. It's not a "real thing" and it's the most anti-competitive concept ever conceived. It's not a real thing when one company rips off another company's product and makes a better, cheaper version and it's not a real thing when someone decides to download a Paradox game.
>>
>>380857908
The only way to price-gouge legally is by adding something to the game, pretty certain Rockstar did that with GTA5 just before a sale by making it so you could only buy the game with a shark card included.
>>
>>380866406

>>
>>380855812
Yeah but it's sadly a usual thing for CA's games so no one comments on it since they are used to seeing that.
>>
>>380866767

No it isn't. Real estate, i.e an example of private property, is somewhere that you can build on, live off of, farm on, etc etc. It's an immutable physical reality, for someone to seize it from you if you had already claimed it would be an act of aggression. A violation of IP law doesn't imply stealing in any context. The only situation where it could be considered something remotely in the vicinity of stealing is if one company made and sold a product using the exact same labeling of an existing product. If I play a game I had no intention of ever buying, but I didn't actually steal a physical disc, what exactly has the company that made the game missed out on? There's no lost profit, there's been no loss of private or personal property, nothing that affects their livelihood whatsoever.
>>
>>380866767
>>380867441

In addition the nearest analogy between say piracy and real estate would be if a person were to squat on property and use the facilities without the consent of the property's owner, but that analogy fails because the squatter takes up space on the property, raises maintenance costs etc

Reminder that trying to make money off a product that can be trivially copied and redistributed an infinite amount of times is the height of idiocy and shows a clear lack of understanding of basic market supply and demand. The fact devs can make money at all is a testament to the naivete and good nature of their customers. Ideas are not property and never can be by virtue of the fact that you cannot give an idea to someone else and in turn lose it. Once given, both have it. There is no such thing as 'intellectual property' because you cannot own information given to others, nor control what they do with it. Fighting this means fighting the very way the universe exists.
