I'd say the ideas of those are fine. The execution is what's terrible. Uchikoshi tried to do this thing where "you are seeing from the perspective of the true culprit the entire time", but not only is this not telegraphed enough, it's actively botched with a bunch of the camera angles, many of which would be impossible if we're supposed to be viewing through the lenses of tiny hidden security cameras.

The game was ruined by the team's lack of experience making 3D cinematic games.

The first one at least you can just think it's just the same timeline with usual time travel sheanigans.

He went back to ensure that the games before would be great using all the skills he had learned.
Unfortunately, this left a younger, less experienced, Uchikoshi in the body of the original Uchikoshi.
The fans were demanding another game, so the younger Uchikoshi read the Wikipedia articles of the games before and set out to make ZTD.
After the embarrassment of ZTD, the original Uchikoshi SHIFTs back into his original body to be met with the failure of ZTD. He sets out to make project Psync as atonement for his mistake.

It's pretty standard romance/drama shit until the plot drops halfway into each route. Recommended route order is Yuka -> Haruka -> Saki (shit) -> Kurumi -> True, and you do have to finish the first four to reach True. The plot changes a bit based on what route you're on, but the true route is good. Never7 actually felt like less of a slog than Ever17 because it actually knew what it was and tried to build slowly instead of giving you this weird juxtaposition of 20 minutes of the chicken sandwich stand and then 20 minutes of something going on. It's not a bad VN.

Other than that, I really liked Story of my Life - short story collection by Ted Chiang. You might know him, because there is a movie called The Arrival based on one of his novels.
