>>
>>380847613
Good. Maybe Microsoft can do what Valve couldn't and bring a PC like environment into the living room.
>>
>>380847613
I have a ps4 myself and I'd probably still get a pc for no paid online and to be able to pirate single player multiplats
>>
Except there are a bazillion games for mid range PCs out where as this has like 20 from the xbone
>>
>>380847613

Except that people buy PCs for other things besides gaming. I need a PC to work anyway, but I spend a little extra to be able to play games on it.

Can I work productively on my Xbox?
>>
>>380847613
Nothing is going to balance out the utility (streaming, emulation, creative work) that having a midrange PC would provide. If Xbox and 360 games actually work properly with full catalog compatibility though that could be enough to compete with older PC exclusives a PC would provide access to if utility isn't important to the individual customer. Either way I don't see this thing taking off.

>>
>>380847613
No. This kills the PC Mustardrace in mid-range market who thinks PC is the best because "muh graphics".
Xbonx still has no games, especially when comparing to W10 PCs because almost every E3 game was revealed to launch on both.
You can't play your popular DOTA clones on it, right? Emulation like Dolphin and PCSX2 are out of the question, tons of smaller indie games and old classics as well. PC has way more versatility.

It's definitely a good entry point to vidya for someone who owns a laptop or similar, though.
>>
>This kills the Le console killer meme builds

Good. Maybe we can actually get real progress in PC and start having GPU's and games that outstrip consoles in every way instead of just being console ports and reddit cards like the 970.

The "PCMR" meme has been holding back PC gaming

I would be amazing if it could.

Except a modern midrange is still superiour to XboneX both in power and utility. Using the same up-scaling techniques as consoles do can see a 1060 run modern titles at pseudo-4k 60fps, with higher settings.

This gap will only increase with the passing years.

The only pro to this console is that it's a lot cheaper than a PC. You just cannot build a PC as powerful as it, however, you could spend just a little bit more and get SO much more, like per say; 60fps in games, 1440p, much better quality looking games. No hidden LoD pop ins.

Don't know if bait or just detached from reality.

Consoles marketing point has always been value for money at the low end and this pretty much has always meant a 30 fps target but with the settings ramped up to the pc's ~high settings. People who play on console legitimately don't give a shit about fps because if they did, consoles since forever wouldn't keep targeting 30 fps.

It's much easier to market higher settings and resolution than marketing 60 fps because your average little Timmy doesn't care about fps.

If this console was targeting 60 fps it'd have to settle for low settings/resolution to achieve that. Just think to yourself which appeals more to a console casual: 30 fps high settings/1440p or 60 fps low settings/720p.

Does it still count as a 'PC' if it can only run approved UWP software purchased from Microsoft?

With SteamOS for all its faults (though developers not following standards making cross-platform support difficult really isn't SteamOS's fault) at least its easy to run GNU/Linux software, and even certain Windows software obtained from any source.

You can build a more powerful PC than this thing out of spare fucking parts. You can literally take the shit that other PC users have deemed to slow or obsolete to be worth using and build a more powerful gaming platform than this brand new console with them, and you can do it for the same price or cheaper if you know where to look.

Games these days require a lot of boring shit like running around empty worlds, waiting to respawn, waiting for your turn, having to watch the same animations repeatedly or all put together. You mean to tell me these kind of escapades are experiences so wild you can barely keep up with it? I bet you eat fries without dipping too.
>>
>>380851536
Nobody wants to do that except hardcore enthusiasts. You can certainly build a really good pc for $500 (linustechtips built a 980ti+i7 4770 build for that price) but they had to travel for hours and hours to different places and scavenge parts together from like 20 different craigslist sources. Even as a predominantly pc gamer I wouldn't wanna do that shit as it's way too time consuming and you'll never know if a part will break on you. This is also the reason why consoles and prebuilts are massively more popular than custom pc's in general. Very, very few steam users are actually using custom builds. The most they've probably done is replaced their old shitty prebuilt tier gpu from 2007 with a 750 ti or something to play league of legends.
>>
>>380847613

>Buy an XBonXxX

Why would I not just spend the £500 upgrading my current PC so that it's better?
>>
>>380848898
> it's a lot cheaper than a PC

The hardware that lets it and the other current Microsoft and Sony consoles be so cheap, namely its jaguar/gcn 1.1 SOC has never been made available to the general market. SOCs let you produce a system much cheaper than normal by combining as much as possible into a single element.

Later this year, around the time the Scorpio launches in fact, AMD will release their first SOC to the general market combining Ryzen, Vega, and other incidental hardware into a single chip.
>>
How much do I realisticaly have to spend on a gaming PC that plays all current games in 4k and 60fps in best details?
>>
>>380852096
Maybe its an American thing, where I'm from everyone who games on PC does it with a custom build - there's just no way to justify spending the money on a pre-built because they are all of them massive rip-offs
>>
>>380852036
It's not my fault that you play boring games. Every game I play I get fully immersed in because if I'm not, it would be a boring game and I wouldn't want to play it. The only times I actually use my 2nd monitor to multitask is either when I'm watching a football/soccer match and following the /sp/ thread or if I'm running a cpu temperature program, but even then I only take a glance every once in like 2 hours to make sure my pc isn't getting too hot in this summer weather.
>>
>>380852096
>I'm a lazy consumer whore

Much simpler way of saying it. You're welcome.
>>
>>380852550
Home built gaming PCs are a tiny niche market compared to the prebuilt PC market. Those of us who build our machines tend to exist in a bubble, most people are gaming on laptops with intel graphics.

SOC based systems capable of actually playing most games well like the ones AMD is launching later this year to the general market could be a blessing and a curse for home built systems. On the one hand they'll greatly reduce the cost and complexity of a low to mid range build. On the other hand if the bottom falls out of the midrange market we'll see high end 'halo' GPUs get even more expensive.

Nigger are you legitimately retarded, or have you never actually connected a PC to a TV?

I connected my PC to my now FIVE year old 40 inch flat-screen via hdmi and it runs like a fucking dream. I have no idea what input lag you're referring to because the shit runs flawlessly. Sure, it's only temporary while I save up for a comparably sized 144hz monitor but being locked at 60fps still makes my experience twice as good as console.

So to reiterate what another anon said, what the fuck are you talking about?
>>
>>380850780
And I'm pointing out how deluded it is to claim that it's going to 'kill PC gaming' when PC is still the only place for anyone who actually cares about performance
>>
>>380850118
"properly" is something you made up.
All developers can make games uglier to run at 60 fps.

>>380850182
Or those who just don't mind it. I'm sure some people get sick from low framerates, I myself hate FOVs below 110 in first person games, but that's not standard for the vast majority of PC games either.
>>
>>380853106
he's right to a certain extent though. i went from a 1ms 27" TN monitor to a 32" LED tv and the input lag is definitely there even when configured in pc mode. granted, i still whoop ass in these fps shooters but i've realized my margins for error are much smaller as i have to accommodate for the increased input latency.
>>
>30 fps killing any market
>>
>>380853106
Probably talking about cheap 2160p TVs which can have pretty awful delays between input and output on the TV. We're talking half second or worse in some cases.
TV makers counted on the 2160p mode only being used for floor displays or media consumption and not gaming since for consoles they only needed to worry about low input lag in 720p or 1080p mode. In fact they may have intentionally neutered them for 2160p gaming to push their much more expensive large format PC monitors with the same panels but upgraded hardware.

I would consider controls and generally more options to be the biggest benefit of PC followed graphics settings to be sure I can get a good frame rate even on my toaster. If these were added to console games and online was made free I could see myself going full console. Everything I have listed has been done before and would not even require new hardware, but console developers are going in a different direction. I don't care at all about having more powerful hardware and then scaling resolution and graphics up until I am back at 30 fps.
>>
>>380853573
really? i was gonna get an lg 4k tv soon for my next console upgrade whether it's the pro or x1x. if this is true then i don't know what to do. input lag sucks.
>>
>>380854605
That was definitely the case a year or two ago on cheap 4k TVs, not sure if its still true on more recent ones. Be sure to check reviews that talk about them as PC monitors for gaming.

The displays sold as 40" 2160p PC monitors are actually pretty reasonable compared to other high end monitors. $700 is usually a good ballpark figure.
http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-43UD79-B-4k-uhd-led-monitor

This one got brought up the other day. Display Port input, USB C, a few HDMI 2 ports and it has a remote (which is my biggest complaint about my large format monitor). Plus the comments say it has Freesync over Display Port.
