I think it has something to do with the fact that enemies in mario games usually have caricatural features like giant goggly eyes and big ass mouths and whatnot, but then you get this giant, featureless shape coming towards and there's nothing you can identify properly to comfort you and it gives this really alien look. The music didn't help too.

Speaking of which, I wasn't a fan of the music that played during the cutscene where Antimario steals FLUDD either.

The port is great now, and that was easily the biggest flaw. However the games stories had several issues. Arkham Knight being robin was a terrible "twist" (they practically told you). Plus scarecrow wasn't carrying the story very well and joker took over. I actually liked joker hanging around as a hallucination, but when he became the main villain it was too much. Lastly the tank battles were the dumbest gameplay decision. It might have been cool if it was once or twice, but there are so many instances where you fight these drone tanks.

As for Pathologic remake: well, I'd recommend tempering your expectations a bit. I mean: it is probably going to be quite amazing, especially after Marble Nest proved that they seem to understand perfectly what made the original so good. But they are working with an AWFUL engine, and the plan is really fucking ambitious, and IPL are not technical masters of their trade. It's probably going to be buggy, incredibly poorly optimized, full of bad design decisions and frustrating elements, the combat is probably going to be terrible, I'd be surprised if the stealth got improved either...

Still my most anticipated game of all time, but I'd still advise to be realistic. It's probably going to be as flawed as the original, maybe more.

I'm worried about the technical aspect of that, we know for a fact that they are quite desperately struggling with the engine (unity is not great in general, but it's particularly terrible for large, open-world setting like this one) which could just fuck up the performance to a point where it can become immersion breaking or the visuals will have to struggle to a point where again, immersion suffers.
I entirely expect the walking to make a return as a point of frustration, because that is something that is not easy to avoid in this particular game.
I just wonder how it will all come together. But again: the Marble Nest actually alleviated a lot of my worries since it basically worked as a bulletin board of "we knew exactly what made the first game work, we see exactly what could improve it and we aim to do it", so at least it does not seem we have to worry about them going Riddley Scott or Ragnar Tornquist on us.

I did that this year too! Loved REmake and thought 2 was incredible. I enjoyed 3 but found CV to be super difficult and frustrating, especially with inventory management. I got bored of RE0 very quickly and stopped playing about 3 hours in.
Replayed 4 for the tenth time and loved it again but 5 was where I stopped. Super fatiguing and soulless. Did not want to play 6 as I hear it only gets worse. Might play 7 eventually, but watching it on youtube kind of showed me what that game is about.

These devs might not be the most efficient developers in the world, but considering they have build their own engines for their previous games, I would not assume they are completely inexperienced.

And yes, it is actually that fucking awful. I've seen devs with 15+ years experience making comparisons about resource allocation and performance efficiency between Unity and other available engines, making breakdowns of the ups and downs and it is awful.
