Robots and automatons have been part of the demon/shadow designs yes as this dude shows >>380837257, but they weren't a pivotal part of the story in the sense that them being a robot was a serious thing happening in the real world nor were we supposed to believe in them as a serious part of the world. I think of it in the same way that some Digimon had mechanized parts, we weren't supposed to believe in them as real life tech in universe so much as it made their design more interesting.

The biggest problem I have with Aigis isn't even so much that she is a robot or at least not wholly it's that we're expected to take her seriously. This is a broader problem I have with P3 in general that I'd rather not write all out as i have stated this hot opinion on here a dozen times but I find a million and one things at odds with Persona 3's attempts at being "dark and serious" that constantly break my immersion.

I'm sure some can be considered that and also that android one that was a villain in the first couple of seasons. But there was never a point in the show when I was expected to take them seriously in the sense that we would see machinedramons engaging in battle in the real world against real life technology and even if we did Digimon wasn't a show like Gundam that was trying to imagine a gritty reality where Mechs are a part of the real worlds arsenal it was a collectathon show trying to differentiate itself from other collectathon shows. Pleasing the animu fans with mech and mech tropes is a light way to do this against things like Pokemon which didn't.

Unless being romanceable changes her character entirely it wouldn't change my opinion of her. Being married to your job only works if you're not completely terrible at that job, she makes the Paynes from Ace Attorney look competent. Can't take her seriously at all to be honest.
