Sony Microsoft and Nintendo made a bad trio if I'm being honest. All 3 were only in competition for about half a gen. Nintendo decided to do it's own thing with the Wii, DS, 3DS, WiiU, Switch thing. Sony and Microsoft sort of settled into their niches by the end of the seventh gen and by the eighth their product had been replaced in their customers living rooms by amazon fire and smart tvs, laptops etc.

There used to be real competition in the industry. Sega and Nintendo were out for each others blood and Sony is still pretty out for blood. But back in the day there were regularly a ton of hopeful consoles stepping up to challenge Nintendo, Sega, and anyone else who was actually big at the time. On top of competition being much more about trying to one up each others games instead of getting the proper "marketing message" out.

I would prefer Atari enter and remain as a balanced number 4 but if they have to muscle somebody out by the end of the gen they I literally don't give a fuck who, Nintendo would be bittersweet but fuck we need change

I think we're at a point where forcing any of the big 3 out of their niches wouldn't accomplish anything.
Forcing Nintendo out really wouldn't change anything, because instead of Nintendo being the weird outsider that isn't really competing in the console race, it would just be Atari.
Same thing with Microsoft and Sony, instead of having one of those two in their niche area, they would just be kicked out and replaced with Atari. Nothing would change, but instead of X company, we'd have Atari. Then each company would continue on until they either got replaced or ran out of money (the first is much more likely because every one of the big 3 is fucking loaded on cash)

If they have a game like Persona 5, Zelda BotW, Bloodborn, Monster Hunter Worlds, and other top tier games on this console, it could be the best console in the current year. But the games decide its fate.

I'm also interested what resolution and frames are possible on this console and how much money they want for it.

The problem is that most normies would never pay 1000 $ for a real 4k 60 fps console. On the one hand 4k is the future and if you have played a real 4k game in 60 fps you can't go back, but only a few will pay the price for 4k.

The PS4 pro for example is no 4k console. It is just a good 1080p console. But with good I mean that it can reach mostly 60 fps, but the 100+ fps are not possible with really good looking games.
