haven't played 7 days to die or rust, but ark was one of the most disappointing and stressful games I've bought it. admittedly the last time i played it was probably like 2 years ago and it was probably a lot worse than it currently is, but meh. games like these are only fun if you have a large group of friends to play with, even playing in duos or trios are not good. even then the mechanics are almost always very monotonous and you are just waiting holding LMB waiting for a timer to chop down a tree or something. these games are all much bigger time sinks than other games.

Plenty of good choices on the list, actually.

Personally, I was not particularly fond of:
DOOM (it's not bad mechanically, but to me it felt really dull: dull environments, dull enemy designs, somewhat dull encounters, dull A.I.). Gunplay is fine, but the novelty of it wears off pretty quickly.
Divinity OS (similar problem actually: it's a competent cRPG, but the story, characters and environments lack any kind of charm or atmosphere)

Also: as for Pathologic: it's my personal all-time favorite game, but you might want to consider that the remake is going to be released in about half a year or so, and you might want to wait for it. Or at least be aware of the remake's development so that you don't feel cheated and annoyed once it comes out.

They basically stated that they worry the actual total player pool for the game is limited, and the game is still scheduled for pretty long development (half a year of until the release of 1.00 and probably another year of post-release support): they worry they might dilute the user base and sabotage their sales in the long run.

I have to say, I strongly, STRONGLY disagree with them on this approach (Factorio, if anything, has the issue of looking a lot more inaccessible than it really is, and I think sales could greatly popularize it even among those who shy away from it otherwise) but they are very... jumpy.
They are basically trying to go for a bit similar approach that niche games like simulator go: compensating niche appeal with "higher" price tag (it's still 20 bucks for a 100+ hours of content, but...)

As for source, I'm sure you could find some statements on line, though I got this info from them personally, I had the chance to speak with the founders of the studio.

Origins probably won't be the game to scratch that itch either. It's not bad (insanely generic and average, but not bad), but it's more more akin to old classic Infinity Engine games or the Mass Effect series. There isn't much else you can try for that particular itch outside of the new Fallout games, Gothic, and TW3 really. It's just a completely under-populated genre.

I think there also might be the component they don't really talk about, which is the simple fact that the production of the game was... rough. It has been in development for five years now and it took a SERIOUS toll on the devs - it was a bit of nightmare for them and it does offer hundreds, potentially thousands of hours worth of content, so maybe they just (irrationally) feel like selling it for less than 20 bucks is... not acceptable. And I don't particularly resent them for it. I mean: twenty bucks is already a good price for this thing.

I just don't think it's as wise business-wise as they think.
They did sell a million copies recently, by the way.
