While I thought the boss fight was ultimately underwhelming due to simply being impossible to fail, and hoo boy, is the pacifist ended some crazy thick power of friendship cheese in the end, it really fucking nailed atmosphere, and god was I fucking in it when Save the World kicked in that first time. Hell, when I fucking died the first time, and the heart breaking animation just said 'no,' it fucking blew my mind, even though in retrospect, the fact that you can't lose is the thing that really makes the normal and pacifist final bosses so lame.

I'm really glad I went into the game blind as early as I did.

I think the problem with the fight itself is that after the holy fuck moment that was the neutral ending, this shit had no real tricks to it.
But it refused was fucking hype as hell, but something like that should've been in the Flowey fight. If this was the one that broke out the fourth wall fuckery and had the potential loss-state of Flowey, then this would've had a lot more impact.
Undertale is interesting in that it continually wows the player, despite the game being constrained by it's limits. I like it a lot and i'm glad it's fanbase has for the most part dispersed.

The game's spoonfeeding you a happy ending for "doing the right thing". You don't have to do much to win against Asriel, much like clicking to progress to the next line in a romance visual novel where you'll always get a happy ending.
In contrast, the Genocide Route is the game resisting you - it has a long and boring grind and the hardest bosses in the game.

You missed the point a bit. The fight is a child's definition of "cool". Asriel is a child. Note how all the attack names sound like they're from an anime, the "NOT EVEN MY MY FINAL FORM" shit, the overflashy effects, etc.

The fight was supposed to be emotional, but I didn't get much of a feel for it. Cool OST, but nit much substance afterwards. I didn't now much about the "villain" enough to warrant emotion, either.

Asriel's designs look like they came right out of a Saturday morning cartoon, so it could've been more emotional fight if you were fighting an end boss who doesn't even know how to be evil, and he just adopted the concept of it from comics and stories. Then the genocide run would've been much more impactful, where you're a murderous maniac, compared to Asriel being a cartoon villain. Plenty of missed opportunities, but ohhh welllllll.

It's a simple game and I wouldn't fret on its content

Was anyone else disappointed with the full game after that amazing demo? I imagined that every part of the game would be full of meaningful choices (at least of who to spare/kill) and the story would change accordingly. Everyone would then experience the game differently.
Instead we get a game that is a waste of time unless you specifically go pacifist.

It was a nice reward after the neutral ending and going through the rest of the game. A hype victory lap that was so anime I loved it. More games should have the "real" final boss not be the final boss, and the story boss exist to give the story a finale as a "The hard part's over, now have fun because you've just got the last 100m dash to go".

It's hard to stay invested in a game where the final boss gets hyped up and it's just a grind because they're either a damage sponge or you keep having to reload. They probably need a way to get that theme across to the player more readily though than "Sorry the previous boss was the last 'real' boss" so people who really want the hard boss fights don't get let down when the final boss isn't harder than the second-to-last final boss.

I'm going to bounce something here that a bunch of you already know, but it's worth reiterating.

I had a friend of mine who played through Wonderful 101, cranked her way all the way to the final boss, beat him, and got stuck behind a QTE during the ending sequence: A pure button mash that was intended as meta humor, but they put a fail condition on it. She ended up needing to have her friend finish the sequence (Literally an issue of ergonomics, Fucking huge Wii U gamepad and small hands)

As a result, her experience was ruined, even though she had already finished the final boss and was simply waiting for the ending to play

If you're did well in the Omega Flowey fight, you should trivially be able to avoid dying more than twice during the finale: Adding a fail condition simply fucks over players that have already completed the skill gate.

It was hype, but only that, hype. It's been said already obviously but being unable to die takes away your involvement in winning the fight. You might say not being able to Game Over is the entire point, but that's my problem with this game. Toby Fox tries way too fucking hard to make his points, so much so that he goes to such lengths that he sacrificies gameplay, proper enjoyment even, to explain what he needs to explain. The game being boring is literally the purpose of the Genocide Route, killing mindlessly being the least interesting way to play and what not. I get the concept, and honestly it's pretty well thought out, but me not having fun, even if it's intentional, is where I draw the line.

LISA. I wasn't too excited to play at first, it was recommended to me by my friend. It's pretty short, but I managed to play it for weeks. The ending sequence shocked me thoroughly though, and I beat the game several times after that and appreciated fucking everything much more.
For the best experience you shouldn't savescum at all.

There is also the risk of losing the sense of achievement by making it too easy like many in this thread have experienced. It goes both ways. I believe there was a balance between keeping the fight "hype" and making it somewhat challenging. Kinda like Flowey actually. You can die in this fight but it doesn't take away any enjoyment. Asriel really is nothing more than a glorified cutscene and it did leave me with a bitter aftertaste afterwards. Now obviously, that's Toby Fox's point of view to make it cater to the widest audience and Undertale is the perfect game for that, but like I said, not all people might enjoy it the same way.
